WrightStreet Parking fine
We have parked there several times. On this occasion we were taking our grandson into town, and concentrating on getting him into the buggy, we completely forgot to get a ticket.
We have now received a fine, but haven’t paid it because I believe it’s a private car park.
Has anyone else had issues. And what was the outcome.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry but why not?
You knew you should have paid and forgot, therefore in breach of the parking terms & conditions.
Anyway, depends on whether or not you are prepared to take a risk. Assuming it was a private car-park what I am guessing you have received is basically an invoice for parking not a fine. If you choose to ignore it the landowner may pursue the debt in court which if you lose will end up in paying the invoice and any legal fees.
Does you fine say 'penalty charge notice' if so this is a legally issued fine, if it says 'parking charge notice' then it is not a fine but an invoice for parking.
It's a gamble!

According to these site all you can be pursued for is the original parking fee plus legitimate costs.

Would you refuse to pay it if you were given a fine by a traffic warden for a parking offence?
It isn't as though you've got a fine after you legitimately bought a ticket. Or one of those occasions where you bought a ticket but it fell off the windscreen. You didn't buy a ticket for using that car park.
It's unfortunate that you forgot to buy a ticket, and it is frustrating, but not because the land owners did anything wrong.
If I were you I'd pay it to avoid further costs being piled on. They do mount up pretty quickly.

Take legal advice from those who are prepared to indemnify you against loss.
You have admitted you forgot so who else do you think should pick up the tab?

"Whilst local authorities enforce public parking tickets, which usually come with fines called Penalty Charge Notices, private parking firms don't have this power. ... This is because private companies don't have the same legal power, and the fines they issue are technically invoices for an alleged breach of contract."

A parking company has NO POWER to force you to pay an invoice unless it chooses to take you to court, which is a hassle, and then it needs to win the case, which is by no means certain.
You could also claim that you did not bring hand steriliser with you and you were afraid the machine was not kept sterilised. That could work at this present time.

Thanks for your replies. When we received the £60 fine we were appalled and had looked in the car for the ticket. Only later did we realise we mustn’t have got one. Only then did I google wright street parking and found, on the other site, that people don’t pay because it is private parking. Bit since then we have had three reminders, of course this has escalated to £100.

Just keep ignoring them till the baillifs arrive...
Why on earth would you expect to get away with free parking in a private car park?

There was a time when the advice was to ignore them, I think that has changed now, there’s a very good chance they will chase you and hand to a debt collection agency.
Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
