Much as I would love Priti Patel's political career to be over - I am inclined to agree with Local on this one. I have seen on many occasions robust management and performance management and the subject makes an accusation of bullying for asking somebody to do their job. It has happened to me.

We know that the people involved were very senior, all on £100k plus salaries - they are big boys and girls and should be able to take the odd f*** word.

You'd think that someone who had previously been forced to resign for breaking the rules/committing treason would either:
A) never be In a position to break the rules again
Or
B) make sure they stuck to the rules in the future.

The fact neither A nor B have applied tells you all you need to know.

When you are at that level the civil servants you engage with are actually supposed to test what they are told. THEY are the experts and the politicians are the amateurs. That way the politician gets advice as to how much capacity there is to apply a policy. Implications, unintended consequences...
But if you don't get that and react by bullying and abuse pretty quickly they will shut up and let you make big mistakes, as she has repeatedly done. I remember both Kerslake and ODonnell saying in effect that if the minister doesn't buy into that relationship the civil servants can torpedo them by doing exactly what they are told.
The fact that Johnson has backed her will affect all of the Perm Secs behaviour with their ministers.
Do you think her record at three separate ministries is just bad luck?
At that level they are very far from lazy. But I realise how comforting that stereotype is.

Who found her guilty of breaking ministerial code, and felt so strongly about Johnson's decision to 'form a square around the Prittster', he resigned.

On the other, you have Priti Patel, who twice before has broken ministerial code (Israel, Viasat). Could this same woman, who suggested that the government take advantage of possible food shortages in Ireland, who the Lord Chancellor Robert Buckland and attorney general Suella Braverman asked that she desist with her targeting of the legal profession after a knife attack at a law firm, and who is to face an employment tribunal next September after allegations that she orchestrated a "vicious" campaign against Philip Rutnam, the most senior civil servant in her department, be guilty of bullying and breaking ministerial code a third time?

I'm fairly sure that most of us during our working life, will have come across someone supposedly in authority who is simply a nasty piece of work, sooner or later they will come unstuck.

The straightforward fact is that the people she abused and declared uncooperative, probably knew a whole lot more about the job than she did.

Just because someone demands they want something done yesterday, doesn't mean it is actually possible, plus of course treat your staff like ***** and at the first opportunity, they will drop you in it.

For what exactly, conduct that could be construed as bullying by a civil servant recipient, who probably thinks a woman who is beneath him has crossed some imaginary line by expecting some hard work.

Being asked to work is probably considered bullying by the civil servants union.
