    Wants civil servants to work.
Oh and did I mention a woman the poor thing is going to be harried by the gutter press for some time now.

For what exactly, conduct that could be construed as bullying by a civil servant recipient, who probably thinks a woman who is beneath him has crossed some imaginary line by expecting some hard work.

Being asked to work is probably considered bullying by the civil servants union.
What a total load of unmitigated BS, do you know anyone who works in the civil service? I would love to stand you in front of a lady who is a senior manager, currently working 10 to 12 hours a day, trying to keep the system flowing, with staff shortages, limited numbers in the office, most staff working from home where possible, she would probably take your head off with that sort of uniformed drivel.

While you're at it I suppose it's to much to expect the politicians at the head of departments to know what they are doing, because let's face it very few have practical experience of the departments they head.

Politicians aren't gods, perfect in every way, the font of all knowledge and certainly not always right, although some would like to think so.

I suppose you also realise that there are probably more female than male staff within the civil service, so what are the odds that it is a male making the complaint?

This lady came in and is a phenomenal job.
She has a gaol and asks people to work with her
    to achieve the same.
Unfortunately staff suddenly find they have to work
    as required.
ie. Full day and using her methods

    You don't like ?
    There's the door

If only it was that simple, how about new MP arrives to take charge, has no idea as to how the department functions, decides that she knows best and proceeds to threaten and bully anyone who dares to venture an objection.

We don't know the full details of this case, but just because some right whingers states that her staff wouldn't do the work is laughable, too many have not got over Cummings attacks on the civil service, just remember that arrogant prat has now gone.

Let's face it. She is a Tory Brexit Ultra, she could eat a live baby in public and Johnson wouldn't do a thing.

    The Author of the Report has resigned because of the complete disregard to his findings so it begs the question;
Who selected him to lead the inquiry was it a, the Prime Minister b, the Leader of the Opposition c, the bloke stood outside Westminster tube station shouting Evenin Stannad.

My money is on a, so why when the selected investigator has published his findings Teflon Patel, thanks to Boris, comes out smelling of roses. What a very expensive waste of money.

As an aside the Chancellor has announced a freeze on public service workers will that be before or after these wasteful public servants get their ÂŁ3k a year rise.

But that also makes her a target for those who didn't want Brexit you can't have it both ways.

As is usual with such matters, responses are falling either side of the political centre line. This is silly and blinkered.

There might well be evidence of behaviour which some, not all, might find 'upsetting' but - is it enough to sack the Minister? The report suggests no and the PM deserves praise for breaking this stupid convention. My response would not differ if Starmer were PM.
There can be no doubt that this would cause immense upheaval and unnecessary work at a time when we really don't need it.

I have never worked in the Home Office but I have worked in several public service roles. I have also worked for several private sector companies and enjoyed a stint with the Army. I labour over this information to highlight I have experience over a broad spectrum.

One thing I can say with absolute certainty is this - those working in the Public Sector do not know they are born and, a significant number would not last in tbe Private Sector. With the office based staff many wouldn't recognise a decent shift if it bit them on the arse.
I have personally witnessed many many instances where an individual has been spoken to in a reasonable manner, asked to account for poor performance, and then played the bullying or discrimination card. The immediate action then was to go off sick with stress, usually enjoying up to six months full pay.
There then would follow a lengthy investigation into the alleged incident, tying up several people which usually ended up with - well, nothing much really.
The 'victim' would then be offered a phased return to work and much much more nonsense.
Now, I accept there are genuine incidents which need to be rigorously addressed but the system is heavily abused within the Public Sector.
A similar situation in the Private Sector would almost certainly result in much head shaking and, at best, being helped on with your coat.

All this is being paid for by you and I and anyone else who pays taxes.

In short the Public Sector, when viewed against similar Private Sector roles, have it very very cushy indeed and are not expected to perform anywhere near the levels required in the Private Sector.

The usual knee-jerk 'my team' reactions that make sensible political discussion impossible.

No matter how low they go, no matter how much evidence there is, no matter how reprehensible this government's actions are, individually or collectively, no criticism will be brooked.

Even on issues of simple human decency, the extreme right lickspittles froth over the tiniest perceived slight.

Party before country. Party before any standards of decency. In this case, party before standards of ministerial code. Which have now been broken 3 times in the case of this particular person. These neoliberal ideologues have little in common with traditional one-nation Tories. More with Giuliani, lying through his teeth in the face of insurmountable evidence.

    Quite bizarre.

The ultimate arbiter is the PM, Allen could not rationally resign on the grounds you state as he is not Judge nor Jury he is merely an investigator and his findings are not as damning as you suggest.

My advice is that the home secretary has not consistently met the high standards required by the ministerial code of treating her civil servants with consideration and respect. Her approach on occasions has amounted to behaviour that can be described as bullying in terms of the impact felt by individuals. To that extent her behaviour has been in breach of the ministerial code, even if unintentionally.

This conclusion needs to be seen in context. There is no evidence that she was aware of the impact of her behaviour, and no feedback was given to her at the time. The high pressure and demands of the role in the Home Office, coupled with the need for more supportive leadership from top of the department, has clearly been a contributory factor. In particular, I note the finding of different and more positive behaviour since these issues were raised with her.

If she had persisted despite warnings then fine but sacking ?

Yes I suppose if you are anti-Patel and all she stands for or just a plain old racist misogynist you would find reasons to sack her.

In the real world telling her that her hyper-sensitive workshy civil servants are upset by her direct manner appeared to have done the job.

You have no idea as to whether her staff are "work shy" . That's just a lazy stereotype.

I ran my own consulting business for 21 years. I worked for clients in every sector of industry except aviation and civil engineering, and in the UK, EU, HK, Australia and the US . I worked for six different public sector organisations.

My observation is that competence and effort is a function of good recruitment and management, and I could give you a long list of examples of waste, incompetence and laziness in the private sector as well as the public sector.

There are numerous examples of public sector outperforming private. For example the train operations taken from private operators and run again publicly have done better in every respect.

But the most egregious example has been with the tracing and testing operations for Covid. The private effort has been embarrassingly bad and now the tracing effort allowed back into the public sector is embarrassingly better.

Love this continuing theme from right whingers that the public sector is incompetent, lazy and barely fit for purpose, yet more and more public sector outperforms private sector, particularly in public services where too often the private sector are being glad handed contracts and then failing miserably to deliver.

As usual we don’t know the full details of the case, but when the Independent assessor feels that he has been totally ignored to the point where he feels the need to resign, this whole thing is deeper than we know, but certainly on the surface it stinks, as usual.

The author wasn't selected, the matter was referred to him as part of his job as Advisor on Parliamentary Standards.

After producing the report he was asked to water down the conclusions - Whitewash.
