Southport FC
Southport FC have done nothing since Charlie Clapham’s reign finished. We had Phil Hodgkinson at the club showing us the ambition for the club, then he went suddenly buying Huddersfield, all that back the bid for nothing, false hope, he had good ambitions but didn’t see them through.
We are now even worse than when Clapham was here, yes we have a new bar, pitch, stand and toilets, all thanks to Phil but on the club side now we are worse than ever, we have a manager who’s on the board and can’t bring himself to step down as manager, as I think he’s lost his touch in this league, the support at this club isn’t great either and from what I’ve seen I’m not surprised as the lack of ambition is clearly showing.
The years have past and look back at 2005 when we won promotion back to the national league at Harrogate, look where they are now in League 2, so many teams have overtaken us, the thing with Southport is, we seen to be content where we are as a club, which is shocking as for years we weren’t happy by the way Charlie ran the club, it’s even worse now.
What next for this club, where can we go from here because it doesn’t look good.

Absolutely laughable post.
Clapham was the genius who bought new floodlights but not the equipment required to change the bulbs in them. Do you really think he'd guide the club safely through covid19?

It’s not that laughable of a post, he’s only saying what he thinks and we haven’t moved forward since Clapham’s departure, teams who were below us have overtaken us and rightly so as they have shown real ambition.

I think the first worry for Southport is surviving given the pandemic. Making it through without going into administration will be a huge relief. There will be a lot of clubs lost.

Stupid ?? I think the post is a concise reflection of the club as it stands today, there is a manager who is on the board so is he going to sack himself if things don't improve on the pitch. There was no ambition whatsoever when Clapham was there, and there isn't the money to be ambitious now. I was 27 when they were thrown out of the league so I have had 43 years of them being a yoyo club between the top two non league divisions. I doubt I will ever see them back in the league in fact I am almost certain I won't.

What a stupid post this is, so your just happy with our club the way it is, just look at all the teams who have overtaken us over the years and then there’s Southport still a yo-yo club with no ambition and not much support.
I don’t blame people for not truly supporting them as I don’t believe there is anything positive coming out of the club moving forward.

As I understand things I believe Hodgkinson, and others, cleared a large amount of debt the club found itself saddled with. Given the current situation that might well be what enables SFC to continue as a going concern.
Having said that, I'm sure a good amount of that debt arose from pie in the sky schemes and projects. Employing a Chief Executive and, replacing volunteers with paid employees without the income to support them, comes to mind.

Phil Hodgkinson spent a lot of money on things we didn’t need and we never improved on the pitch with him at the club either, but as a club we can’t go on the way we are going, we will never get out of this league with the way we are, would Liam sack himself as he’s on the board, I don’t think he would to be honest but something needs to change and quick.
The way we are as a club now we are lucky to be in National League North. We shouldn’t be bringing up the past achievements from the Football League days because in doing so it just makes us an embarrassment as a club, the teams people wouldn’t of thought would make the Football League have done so, leaving clubs like us behind in the process.
The reason the club isn’t well supported is mainly because no one has ever been real ambitious and forward thinking, we as a club will always be portrayed as a non league club if we don’t change the way we go about things.
The false hope from Hodgkinson and what he wanted to do with the club hasn’t helped either and people in the town feel that Southport FC is a lost cause. I feel with the right investment and forward thinking this club might have a chance of challenging for the playoffs in The National League one day but like I said we can’t keep going on like this for much longer, things need to change and fast.

Back the bid was all false hope by Phil Hodgkinson, he told us his ambition’s and didn’t follow them through. We all believed he was going to make us a success but yet again in the Southport way nothing happened and we again become a laughing stock.
there is no point keep going on about the football league days, it’s been and gone and in doing so teams are so far ahead of us, and we are still stuck as a part time team doing nothing.
The way this club is going we will be lucky to be in the National League North. We will never move forward the way we are being run, we have a manager who is also on the board and like what’s already been said would he sack himself to save the club, I don’t think so.
The Club doesn’t have much ambition at all, we maybe not in the red but what’s the point in having a club if you don’t want to achieve some success and have ambition to better the club and a club the town can be proud of.

The trouble with this club is simple, the town has never really got behind the club and who can blame them, false promise after false promise and still producing nothing while watching other teams over take us and make names for themselves.
The Clapham era has been and gone and we now find ourselves stuck in National League North producing mediocre football, wasn’t the reason we wanted Clapham out is because we had nothing to support with no ambition, well that’s seems to be the case now.

If the club are still in the same position despite lots of clubs overtaking them then there must be an equal number of clubs that are falling below Southport. To stand still Southport must be outperforming clubs that were once above them so it can't be all that bad.

Can’t be that bad, we have been a club like this ever since we left the Football League a part from Phil Hodgkinson false hope of course, just look at Lincoln the season they won The National League when facing us at home, they took over most of the stadium, how embarrassing for us that was.
The people at the club now need to seriously think of a plan for this club moving forward with some ambition

So what you're actually admitting is that the club has obviously found its own natural level since being a basket case League club that had to repeatedly apply for re-election.
How do you suggest this ambition that you demand is funded?

You don’t need loads of money for ambition, just look at Accrington Stanley.
