Decent baked potatoes, I have tried as many varieties as I can find and can't find one that is like they use to be.

Which 'old fashioned' chip pan?
What are the NEW chip-pans like?

Something like this, perhaps?
Welcome back
Orwell said "If there is hope, it lies in the proles." Whilst champagne socialists see diversity idealised at university, the common folk experience it first hand in their neighbour hoods.

I do remember them. A big pan, filled with lard that reset after every use. The lard was rarely changed.
We used to have a deep fat fryer that about twice a year we'd have chips in lard as they used to be. Gorgeous.
I miss the chocolate we had in the 70s and 80s. Caramacs, Milky Bars, Bar 6, Icebreakers etc. I know you can still buy some of them, but they don't taste the same now. Or the purple chocolates and green triangles in Quals and Roses.
I know part of it is that my taste buds have probably changed. I stick to very dark chocolate nowadays.

Taste buds much change or products do.
I remember eating chocolate Ready Brek as a kid, saw some as an adult and bought it eager to have a taste of childhood, yuk it was disgusting!

I think it's a bit of both.
I'm not saying the products were more 'natural' back then, as I don't know what was in them. But certain products, such as the Ready Brek you mentioned, seem to have an unnatural sweetness to them. I've tried the Quaker Oats flavoured porridge, and the sweetness sets my teeth on edge.
I gave up on ready meals a long time ago because they taste rank. No matter which brand. I'm assuming it's the chemicals / preservatives in them. I still see ''Vesta Chow Mein' in budget shops and wonder if they taste the same as they did in the 70s. Then remember they were disgusting in the 70s, so don't bother.

Maybe it's your mum you miss the most?

You can still make decent chips at home in a frying pan. Oven chips are an abomination, chippy chips are nice but home-made are best. I have a rarely used deep fat fryer but if I want good chips I put a little oil in a frying pan and cook them that way. You really need very little oil. So egg and chips is still on my menu!
As for chocolate it has definitely changed for the worse. When Kraft took over Cadbury it all went down hill from there. Cheaper ingredients probably.
The thing I miss is Ulster Fry. You can still buy it but not as widely as in my youth and it just doesn't taste the same.
