The people that had a reaction to the Pfizer vaccine, had a history of allergic reactions to any vaccines they have had in the past. So it's a bit of a non story really.

The only question is “why were they given the vaccine if their medical history was known”

I also wondered why that was. Before any vaccination you're always asked if you have any allergies. As both NHS workers were aware of their allergies, and carried an epipen, I assume that their allergens weren't an ingredient in the Pfizer vaccine. Eggs and gelatin are the most common vaccine allergens. The Pfizer vaccine doesn't contain egg. I'm not sure about gelatin.

I wish they knew what caused the severe reaction. I'm allergic to milk and go into anaphylactic shock. I carry an epipen with me at all times. Hopefully they will ascertain what the cause was before it's my turn for a shot.

The one and only time I had clams, I went into anaphylactic shock and had to be revived.

It's only clams, though. I'm perfectly OK with any other seafood, including mussels, which I really like.

There must be something in clams that other molluscs don't have, although I now avoid all of them.

I know what various vaccines might contain, but, apart from the fact that the Pfizer vaccine doesn't contain eggs, I didn't know what the non medicinal ingredients were. Health Canada has since posted them on their site and warned about taking the vaccine if you're allergic to any of the ingredients.

I've never had a problem with vaccines before. None of the ingredients seem to be milk products, but I'll give my GP a call and check with her. It will be a while before my age group gets the vaccine, so more might be known by then.

Forgot to add that the US FDA issued its report yesterday. The final step before approval takes place tomorrow. A committee of independent scientists will pick apart the FDA reports before the FDA decides if the vaccine is safe and effective. The full proceedings is live streamed for the public to see. I'm not sure if you can get it in the UK, but I intend to watch it. They really do have the most rigorous process before they agree to emergency authorization.

I also wondered why that was. Before any vaccination you're always asked if you have any allergies. As both NHS workers were aware of their allergies, and carried an epipen, I assume that their allergens weren't an ingredient in the Pfizer vaccine. Eggs and gelatin are the most common vaccine allergens. The Pfizer vaccine doesn't contain egg. I'm not sure about gelatin.

I wish they knew what caused the severe reaction. I'm allergic to milk and go into anaphylactic shock. I carry an epipen with me at all times. Hopefully they will ascertain what the cause was before it's my turn for a shot.

The finger seems to be pointed at the preservative used in the vaccine, nothing confirmed as yet, the only recommendation being that those who suffer from allergic reaction to avoid the injection, hope this is soon cleared, as this could prevent a considerable number from getting the vaccine.

Other European countries are awaitng for the EMA to grant approval somewhere near the end of December. The USA is not distributing the vaccine yet as it has not had sufficient time to carryout its own tests, and Switzerland does not have sufficient information with regard to people with underlying causes. I don't think so, I read something the other day that the Russians are looking at making theirs in powder form, I also read somewhere else that a trial is to take place with the Oxford & Russian together.
All the spouting that was being made about Pfizer vaccine (& probably the Oxford) being rigorously tested is just poppycock it wasn't tested on anybody with any allergies how many other groups were also missed out to ensure that they got the test results they wanted? We can't have confidence in any vaccines or medicine authorities who have obviously passed something that had not been rigorously tested in the rush to market.
