I take my hat off to you. You must be fortunate enough to be in a position to ensure they do that.
But for parents having to work 9 till 5 it is a different story. Kids of that age would rather be on their playstation or simllar or zedding in bed. That is the nature of the beast.

I work 8 till at least 5. Then come home and take care of my eldest child.
My wife doesn't work, but that again is because we have to look after our eldest child.
We have a little thing called a routine in our house, That's the only magic. It's now just gone 9:30pm and my daughter aged 13 is about to go to bed, My Son aged 14 will be in bed in under an hour. No gadgets in their bedrooms.
My eldest who is 18, Is already in bed, has been for 40 minutes.
The nature of the beast is what you teach it to be.

The nature of the beast is instinctive. That is why responsible parents set rules and protect kids from them selves. I know a little bit about the nature of teenagers, having been one once, going to school with many and raising 3 teenagers of my own. As an experiment why not tell your kids that for the next week they are allowed to do anything they want. Anything. I bet school work at 8 30 am would not be top of their priorities

Yeah, well that's where being a parent comes in. What are you trying to prove exactly?
With out doing the experiment I can tell you what would happen. My daughter would be down at 8.30 ready for schooling and my Son would be upstairs festering away watching you tube on his mobile. But because I'm a half decent parent, I don't allow that and he wouldn't do it.
Shockingly I used to be a teenager too, and I'm in the middle of bringing up not dragging up 3 very difference teenagers.
BTW Son's just gone to bed, Bang on time as told to do an hour ago. So that's all three in bed, You know school night and all that.
