What is Your Diet comprised of

Years ago, it was claimed that people were most healthy just after the War when there was still food rationing. We relied heavily on our own farm grown foods, natural milk, butter, cheese, home made bread etc.,

Today - our foods contain numerous additives, colouring and added flavours, along with preservatives to extend shelf life. Very often, our food is not even natural - it is manufactured completely. Frozen food kills off much needed vitamins, and ready meals taste nothing like the meal advertised on the packet.

The number of illnesses, diseases, allergies and health complaints of various kinds have increased dramatically over the past sixty years - do you think there is any connection?

I put it down largely, to poor lifestyle choices. Convenience/fast foods and readymeals all play their part, along with our sedentary lifestyles......Imo, you won't go far wrong on a sensible diet of real food and living an active life.

But - what is REAL food?

It is just to easy to produce.

I am sure post war Brits would have eat more if food was not rationed

Real food? Simply buy it fresh, or chilled. Select good quality fresh veg and meat, preferably organic, then prepare and cook it yourself. You know what's gone (or not gone) into the meal, avoiding unhealthy, unwanted additives, colourings and preservatives.

It's a common but mistaken belief that freezing or canning food destroys its vitamin or food value.

There are many things that will affect your health much more, what you eat is number one.

Then your amount of activity.

Having suffered last year with acute pancreatitis, my food intake now is very low fat, very little sugar and no alcohol. I've lost the paunch and haven't felt better for a long long time.

I have a varied diet for my main meal of the day, meals can easily be swapped as well

Mon = KFC
Tues= Chinese
Wed = McD's
Thurs = Indian
Fri = Chippy
Sat = Pizza
Sun = Kebab

Agree....I do keep a few cans as a standby. However, you can't guarantee canned veg will always be additive-free. I have here a tin of 'carrots in water'. Yet the ingredients are listed on the back (in very small print) as: carrots, water, antioxidant, ascorbic acid.

Sugar is hard to get out of your diet but well worth the effort to reduce.

So many of us have our health in our hands by the time we get to the NHS it's far too late for many the damage is done.

Gallstones and drinking too much alcohol are the two most common causes and together account for around eight of 10 attacks of acute pancreatitis.

Good luck with keeping healthy and avoiding the horrible disorder.

I have never eaten veg except potatoes, onions & mushrooms. Feel okay with out them, the thought of cabbage, cauliflower & peas on my plate is awful. My parents tried & tried to encourage me to have veg to no avail. I was a very stubborn baby
