Twice in the last five years, 'exit payments' approved by Sefton Council for departing top Council bosses have amounted to more than £250,000. The Sefton Labour Party wants to bring back these 'big bucks' pay-offs.

The 'Restriction of Public Sector Exit Payments Regulations 2020' brought in a £95,000 cap on exit payments for Council employees.

But the Labour councillors controlling Sefton Council think that top bosses in the local authority who are no longer needed should be allowed to receive hundreds of thousands more in final pay-offs - as has happened in the past.

So, Labour councillors have put down a motion for debate at Thursday's virtual council meeting, calling on the Cabinet to seek this limit being lifted - but, peculiarly, they want this to happen only if there is a future Labour government.

Most people would be content with a £95k redundancy payment as fair and reasonable. You'd think there was a magic money tree. Shows how out of touch they are when the country is borrowing massive sums already to prop up the economy whilst fighting Covid.

Surprise surprise, Politicians with their noses in the trough yet again.

I think there may be a bit of bias in this story and I would hold my thinking until it all comes out in the wash.

Circumspection is called for, here. I would like to see some specific detail before taking this at face.

you’d see it’s considerations to new local government policy and that in the report as it’s not asking to lift the limit, it’s stating the recommendation if any cases are to be considered per the guidance as what employers “could do”.

The article says "The Sefton Labour Party wants to bring back these 'big bucks' pay-offs". I'd say that was the truth, always assuming that the highly political paragraph (iv) was written by the Labour Party (difficult to imagine who else).

maybe, but what page are you looking at as the page I referred to (the agenda reports pack for referenced meeting”, around page 50 does not have an “iv”, may have missed it but can’t read what i can’t see.

there’s a difference between a document and every document, also regardless of which document, if you read the whole thing it’s not about the “top bosses” but guess it’s all just divisive fodder.
