A) Partly agree...Hoghton is wide enough to allow parking and cycling, if it's done right. Problem is, the job was done in a hurry and at minimal cost - hence the present situation.
There is room for parking along one side, whilst leaving enough tarmac for a decent cycle-lane each way and two-way traffic down the centre. That would have been the best compromise, it's just a pity they chose not to do that.
B) Yes, Albert Rd will be busier. However, I don't see the increased traffic volume as being a problem in itself. It's the constant obstruction caused by parked cars along the West side, that makes it a nightmare to negotiate......Put a yellow line along that side - and Bobs your Uncle!

I regularly cross Queens Rd and traverse Hoghton St and I as yet have seen the fantastic number of Zero cyclists YES ZERO using the lanes that are so popular according to a University census. I reckon being students they used the time they were supposed to be doing a census to do more popular student activities and just come up with some fantasy number.
Having been involved in a traffic census at Portland St/Duke St/Aughton Road/Birkdale Station/Ainsdale Station prior to the signal boxes being closed and replaced with remotely operated barriers I can assure you that the human body has ways of discharging waste which no matter how strong willed you are cannot be halted during the 12 hour length of each shift.

It's obviously meant to say Jan 21st 2021 as the lanes didn't exist until autumn 2020.

This Dianne Abbott survey can clearly count pixies and Unicorns.
I have gone many times down that road on both bike and in car and clearly need some magic glasses to see all these cyclists.
