Genuinely confused.
Have just read on a website that the number of UK deaths recorded for 2020 is the highest since 1985. What happened in 1985 that caused the death rate to soar?
The site was one that I had never heard of before. Full Fact.Org

Ha! Ha! That site was owned by one of Bill Gates rich colleagues group. When she died a short while ago, it was left to her son to manage - you can't believe anything on Full Fact.org. Originally began by Walter Annenberg, a lecturer in some American University - as an efficient way for students to check their facts on certain topics. When he died his Mrs. took over and Soros/Google etc., saw the benefits in using such software for American elections, Marketing etc., that would be highly beneficial to shareholders. Then the Mrs. died and it is now being managed by their son Wallis.
Again it will be a conflict of interest since they will criticise anything which will be detrimental to the stockmarkets. .
It is highly likely, since they quote 1985 - that they have not included the increased population since that year, which would make the percentages far higher. You can find the genuine statistics on the Government sites.

It's not so much the case that 1985 was particularly exceptional it's just that since then the trend for deaths per year has mostly been downwards as people are living longer.
Although it seems to be rising steadily since 2010.

Really?

FullFact is a British organisation - but each have their own bias:
"[FactCheck.org's] parent organization, the Annenberg Public Policy Center, was established by Walter H. Annenberg, the former publisher of TV Guide and the Philadelphia Inquirer, President Richard Nixon’s ambassador to Great Britain, and a Republican. But over time the organization moved to the left," Capital Research Center writes in an article about "Dishonest Fact Checkers."
As is repeated many times on Social Media - "Who fact checks the fact checkers?" and for good reason. As was pointed out by the opening post - the facts are wrong and if they bothered checking the facts from the National Statistics - they would not need to be fact checked.

I might be generalising, but since the 80s, the pressure on attaining material goods seem to have increased massively. Even kids have to have the right trainers, the right phone etc. Back in the day (which is only a decade or so earlier as far as I'm concerned), we simply didn't have those concerns. Sure, there were fads (not the wallpaper shop), but no particular need to wear this label or that.
A combination of Americanising (?) the young and the Yuppie 'greed is good' culture, maybe? Just musing to myself really, but I definitely saw changes culturally back then. By the 90s my nephews were after £100 trainers and were persona non grata if the labels were wrong.
All an awful lot of pressure. Particularly on young men I'd reckon.

In 2015 the rate was 9.3 deaths per thousand. 9.1 in 2016, 9.2 in 2017, 9.3 in 2018.

In 2020, the rate was 9.44 per thousand. A slight rise but within 5% of the average over the last 10 years.

Considering that a great number of people died because they could not access healthcare and a huge number of people have died due to suicide brought on by fear generated by the media
Data published by the Office for National Statistics on 1 September showed that in 2019 the suicide rate among men and boys was 16.9 deaths per 100?000, the highest since 2000 and slightly above the 2018 rate of 16.2 per 100?000. The suicide rate among women and girls was 5.3 deaths per 100?000 in 2019, up from 5.0 per 100?000 in 2018 and the highest since 2004.BMJ

Almost 5,000 more people in England have died from heart problems than would be recorded normally.
That is just a few of the examples - There is also the fact that those who TESTED poiitve for Coronavirus and died within thirty days, would have been classed as a covid statistic, people do not die from Covid - they die WITH covid.
From Age Concern:
In England and Wales in the week ending 3 April 2020, coronavirus was included as a cause of 3,475 deaths.
Additional deaths
In that same week there were nearly 16,400 deaths from all causes. This is more than 6,000 more than the previous 5 years. Considering the 3,475 attributed to coronavirus, there were around 2,600 more deaths than would usually be expected at this time of year, over and above those attributed to coronavirus on the death certificate.
With all the hype published in the news - you would have expected that there were 16,400 death attributed to this so called lethal outbreak and just 3,475 deaths of all causes! This year has been bad for a great number of reasons for many people - but little to do with any outbreak.
