Mowing the lawn
Best time is the end of March. Not just yet, wait til you get a few drier days then it won't get hacked up (depends on what mower you have).

Also there is a lot you can do before mowing....such as raking to remove moss and thatch and aerating when the soil is damp.

Don't mow if the grass is wet wait until it dries a bit then set the mower to its highest cut or the first couple of mows.

Saw professional gardeners cutting a lawn four weeks ago with a petrol mower. We did ours week before last after waiting to ensure the grass was pretty dry, electric mower. No problems. Wait for a nice sunny day about lunch time and go for it.

Professional gardeners
Professional gardeners would do it with 4 inches of snow on the ground.
I have seen the ones in town do the lawns on Lord St when it has just stopped raining and seen them transformed into muddy messes.

I'm no professional, but I don't think we'll be cutting ours just yet! Apart from over the septic tank, we're still surrounded with a good few feet of the white stuff. I think we'll be blowing, not mowing, for a while yet.

I’m fortunate enough to have a field of grass at the bottom of my garden which has been left as pasture and always has sheep in it this time of year. I always relied on the birth of the lambs to herald the arrival of Spring. It’s definitely getting earlier and earlier every year. We’ve had the bleating of lambs to wake up to each morning for 3 weeks now, which is definitely earlier than last years new arrivals.
