If you don't believe a Nurse's employment status is pretty much guaranteed then you don't inhabit the same lump of rock as the rest of the human race!
Another beef I have is the persistent harping from the RCN that Nurses will leave the profession in droves over this pay offer.
Reality check - if they believe they can walk into another job with average earnings of £33k per annum (RCN's own figure), good luck with that.

Take a look at nursing agency pay scales, bear in mind these are the staff that the NHS call on to fill temporary or permanent staff shortages, even at the basic pay scale based on hourly rate without overtime or extra pay on public holidays earnings of £ 50,000 are achievable, specialist nurses can earn in excess of £ 100,000 pa.
That is where sadly medical staff can easily find employment, the drawback is of course staff can and do work in different sites.

As I said nurses employment status being 'guaranteed' is down to shortages, £33k makes them poor relations in a workforce that requires a degree.

The reason nurses and public sector workers are safe in our employment is that we are actually if some use gazaprop.

A bonus for those at the sharp end sounds great.
I don't know how we would sort it though.

Some are of some use Polly Trott. There are many, particularly employed with the LA, I wouldn't pay in washers!
I know - I spent almost 17 years carrying a good few of them.

Same in the NHS, some absolute stars from all over the world working for the good of us all, weighed down by some poor performers.
I would feel very uncomfortable not recognising those at the sharp end specifically.
A nurse on an ICU getting the same as one who has drifted for a year would be very unfair to the ICU nurse.

The problem is where do start and where do you stop, ICU is the focal point but others working well away from there were / are still in the front line. At the end of it what is required is something for the future that recognises the skills and efforts that these staff put in day in day out.
