The Fire, Police, Mountain Rescue and Coastguards are not in the armed services either. They all and each have to put their lives on the line when it is necessary. Soldiers put their lives on the line without any war in sight - they have to do what they are instructed to do - even taking untested vaccinations! What do people think hospitals are if you are not risking your health when working in one? They think they are for people in the best of health??

Those you quote all know the score when signing up, the hospital staff didn't sign up for what they have experienced during the last year, they signed up to look after sick people not to have to deal with people with a highly contagious disease without the necessary protective equipment.

What where people expecting?
Millions spent on a pandemic, Millions lost on incoming revenue. Does someone have a magic money tree we don't know about?
This is just the start of it. Wait till the worst of the pandemic is over and they have to get back all the money thrown at it to keep us safe.
Grow up, Get your head down and try get through this ****.

Its so easy to hand out money we haven't got and justify it rather illogically by what we have spent.
It might be better to look at those who won't have a job soon and with what we now have, a debt our children will be paying.
Handing out other peoples money and increasing our childrens debt is something straight out of Corbynomics vol 1.

If you want a service you have to pay for it, if you haven't go the money you need to find it either by increasing your income or cutting back on your expenditure elsewhere. Simple, you cannot turn round to somebody and say to them I haven't got the money so you have to take less for the service. There are plenty of places to find the money, they could start by killing off some of the vanity projects like HS2 & Crossrail or should we be looking at spending £37.5m on tarting up the town centre rather than paying the NHS staff?

A bonus would be better than nothing but it's patronising. It doesn't help pay a mortgage.
It was particularly offensive that they had Nadine Dorries tour the studios yesterday defending this. That's Nadine Dorries, rarely coherent after lunch, who had to repay expenses ( then said she would claim no more, but is back doing it) and who is able to have sideline writing novels that have had the critics laughing ( not intentionally). That's Nadine Dorries whose income is in the region of £130,000.

They still have their jobs many many soon won't.
It isn't perfect I accept but many people can make a perfectly reasonable claim for higher pay, perhaps we should cut the pay of those who aren't so busy in the public sector.
Take your pick.

Who are those who aren't so busy? I think you will be hard pushed to find them, many thousands have been made redundant over recent years as services have been slashed, they weren't just put in a corner hoping to to be found something to do.

There are plenty in the NHS who have had an easy time.
I have been and seen them and know some.

My God, you don't need to be a detective to see who follows the far right on here. Jackboots at the ready again.
6 months ago and the NHS was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Now the pandemic is (probably temporarily) slowing, and they are just leeches demanding unreasonable chunks of the public purse.
Just the money peed down the drain on useless PPE would give the nurses a pay rise for several years. How many nurses' wages could Patel's out of court settlement cover?
I hope those who regard the nurses demand for a rise is unreasonable voice their opinions loudly next time they avail themselves of NHS services.
But they won't. Fascist in the forums, sweetness and light near a nurse, no doubt.

CAN'T AFFORD IT!
It's already budgeted for 2.1%, this was covered by the NHS revenue settlement announced by Theresa May in June 2018. This settlement was then enshrined in a formal act of parliament, the NHS Funding Act 2020.

The new media briefing room at number 10 has just cost £2.6 million. They had to find the money to pay for that from somewhere.

I know first hand from a nurse due to their speciality that their shifts have never been quieter with night shifts spent catching up on personal email.

I know a consultant who has been twiddling their thumbs at home.
By all means reward those who have worked hard but its not everyone.
Also working with infectious patients is par for the course.
