Totally unsurprising from the same mindset that brought us the Premier League and Champions League.

I'm with Gary Neville on this.
Just a money making exercise that diminishes other competitions.
Not surprised though. Can't say much for the others, but this is standard Glazer money grubbing without a thought for the club or fans.
If they go ahead, they should be kicked out of every other cup. Shame for the players too, but their contracts end. They can move on.

I know nothing about football but I am guessing that a lot of the owners of the clubs involved are not native to the countries of the clubs. If so they have no tradition of fans supporting the clubs and only see the global digital support base. Is this another American attempt at a take over? What's the betting that within a year or so the rules of the game will be changed in the new league and the players will effectively be trapped in that league?
It seems like it could be the further death of grassroots players in ths country but surely that is where the players for a Super League would come from? Shooting themselves in the foot after a few years?

Don't watch footie these days. But I could watch these super stars. Nothing wrong with shaking things up.

Is this like what happened with Kerry Packer and cricket years ago?

Cant say I'm a supporter of this change what's wrong with the present setup . It's just another way of clubs making more money .

In some leagues just a few clubs dominate, as far as providing top class games every match, I do understand, however our leagues are much more open, with so many clubs having and taking the opportunity to progress.
But this whole plan stinks of just financial gain with no concern for the game at all, looks very much like the US NFL, with the same teams everlastingly playing the same rivals.

Two words describe this escapade CORPORATE GREED!
Out of the gloom a voice spoke unto me
''Smile and be happy things could be worse.''
So I smiled and was happy and behold
Things did get worse!

I agree but I would insert "certain" between "of" and "clubs" . For 6 clubs to be put on a pedestal (not even the current Top 6) is the beginning of the end as what is there to aim for for the rest.
The old First Division was a more level playing field and more able for a club to come out of nowhere to win it. Derby Nottingham Forest West Ham Aston Villa West Brom Fulham QPR had success over the years winning cups and league titles now it is so predictable apart from Leicester a few years ago. If the renegades form this self serving self elected Super League then it should mean automatic suspension from any English Football Competition which they are already creaming off quite nicely if Leicester could pull off a miracle again it would be the perfect two fingered (or one whichever is your choice) salute to these greedy clubs.

For anyone who is in any doubt what is motivating this just think about this.
The proposal is to remain in the Premier League and associated competitions and play in the “Super League” in midweek.
When was the last time you heard a manager saying “I don’t think we are playing enough football, I would like to play 3 or 4 games a week”, which is what is likely to happen.
And if you think these “Super League” games would make great viewing, there’s every chance some of these games will be played in the fat east, Middle East, USA etc so limiting the true fans to very few games.
Watching on TV, I would imagine they would be on a new subscription channel or PPV, whichever the fans are going to be hit hard in the pocket.
Its a definite no from me, if they are to pursue this, then they should not be allowed to compete in the Premier League or Cup competitions, if the “Super League” failed and they wanted to return, they should be made to start at the bottom of the pyramid.

My prediction....it will never happen. In few days one of the so-called big six in the UK will withdraw due to pressure from the fans and the other five will soon follow.
