The last time I was in London was for an exhibition of Mayan artifacts and that was yonks ago. It was a hot day and there is nothing worse than the baking streets of a city. Although the museum was good we got an earlier train home after the shock of the price of a meal.
Lodon is a great place for a day out. I miss the days when you could decide on the spur of the moment to go darn sarf and simply rock up at the station, but a ticket and get on a train without it requiring pre booking and a loan from the bank. My family used to go down for Christmas shopping days....imagine that now!
You'd have to pay me to live in London but I wouldn't mind being able to afford living somewhere about thirty minutes up a fast train track so I could do days out. There are so many places I will probably never go to now.

The main attractions are theatres, museums, Harrod's and London buses. I love visiting, lots to do there.

I love to visit London , great city. But I couldn't live there. Too big and bustling.

The last time we went was 2019 visited this fascinating place.

    https://www.visitlondon.com/things-t...se-rotherhithe

We have visited a lot of the sights sometimes twice if our student children wanted to go if the entry cost had stopped them before.

In 2000 we visited the London Dome.
At the time children from all parts of the country were invited to visit.

Since then there have been so many trips.

The most memorable on daughters first Christmas Day away from home.
There was no traffic still made sure the year after she did not end up alone in rental and not working either side of Christmas Day.

We drove there and back in one day walked along the Thames for entertainment.

I've been going to London all my life as my Aunty lived about 30 mins out of London on the tube. One thing that would prevent me going to live there is the fact that not having won the Lottery a modest semi would be well out of my reach. I haven't been to London over the last five or six years because of my other half being disabled and seriously ill but I still like to go and walk around Central London in no specific order as you find things and places of interest.

I used to work with colleagues who where lucky enough to sell up in London and transfer up here buying a really nice house in some of the nicer parts of Southport or Formby and having a fortune left over.

There are some fantastic green spaces in London and lovely property.

I figure the people who don't like it are just basing their opinions on small parts.

Apart from the few car-free bits like Hyde Park, the whole place is crawling with traffic!

Although it's years since I was in London, in my younger years I loved the city. I had family in London then, and whenever possible I plonked myself on them for a visit. To live there would have been a dream come true.

I loved living in the city of Toronto when I first came here. The city vibe was exciting, but the very things that I loved as a young woman, would drive old me crazy.

    So true.
In particular I cannot siphon out loud music whilst I eat now.

Whilst there are some amazing places in London I find the atmosphere hostile, there is a constant noise of traffic & sirens and I find the presence of armed police everywhere anything but reassuring.

I didn't move to London from Southport, but i did move to work in London. I couldn't afford actually to live in London indeed I have a cramped three bedroom terraced house that I paid about the same for as my 7 bedroom pile in Crescent Rd.

My choice was redundancy or relocate and at that stage I still had two kids to get through Uni, so it wasn't really a choice.

However, I love London and it had always been an ambition of mine to work there. There was nothing more depressing than leaving the hustle and bustle of Euston and then two hours later emerging in Wigan and stepping over the jakeys and empty chip wrappers during the walk between stations. I rarely return to Southport these days (notwithstanding the pandemic) but it feels a very dreary and down at heel place.

The main things I miss are walking through the dunes and watching the seasons change, frogs grow etc. and further afield, the Lakes. However, I now have easy access to beautiful countryside in Suffolk and Essex, great for cycling. The rugby club has fantastic facilities compared to Southport, but none of the craic.

I remember the first summer after I had my son sitting out on the balcony/walk way of our flats and trying to get him to sleep. It was too hot in our cramped flat but on the balcony the helicopter hovering over the London hospital, the police and ambulance sirens and the music from other flats and cars was constant. Twenty years later I still appreciate not having to decide between keeping the window shut and so bring able to sleep undisturbed or opening it and being able to get some fresh air but no shut eye.

London is great if you are seriously loaded or young and happy to rough it. It's a wonderful place to spend a few days wandering about.

What has struck me in recent years about Southport is just how brilliant it is for walking. With a National Park at every corner you can be in the middle of truly stunning scenery in two hours door to door. Lockdown meant focussing on the local areas and what we have on our doorstep ain't too bad either...and of course the recent election of more Labour councillors Is a real benefit!

Mid to late 60's it was a world away from anything Southport could offer as far as I am concerned the Merseybeat was, apart from The Beatles, swallowed whole by the London groups The Who, The Small Faces, The Kinks. It was common place to see famous people from all walks of life on London's streets. But I was only ever there for a week or occasionally two weeks didn't want to overdo my welcome at my Aunties.
