Why Do the French need to fish our waters

Following on from todays news of the protests from French Fisherman about not being given fishing licences from Jersey, and the restrictive fishing in British Waters, I don't see why.

France faces towards the Bay of Biscay and also out on the Mediterranean Sea. It has far more water to fish in than the UK because it is a far larger country than the UK - so why do the French need to fish in British waters at all?

If they can only obtain certain species from their own waters, then these species are the resources which they should be satisfied with, and they should market those. If there is a demand for British fish in France, then they should purchase it like everyone else does.

As it is, the French fishing trawlers are massive compared to those of the UK and Jersey and can collect huge numbers of our fish. Thee huge trawlers should be banned - in fact all French fishing in our waters should be banned, don't you think?

A fishy business this Brexit lark......

Why, whatever their home port, can't people just fish where they always have?

I guess if they are anywhere near Jersey, they are nearer the French coast than the English coast.

Looks like someone forgot to tell that to the fish!

Personally, I have little interest in who's catching crabs in Jersey. But a silly fight over flounders, could roughen the waters ashore for Brits holidaying in France.

I'm sure our boats will be back in port by Friday.

We aren't going to kick off over a few fish. Though the Mail Online 'Dad's Army' graphics were amusing for a minute.

According to Mogg, the fish are happier being British, can’t have the pesky French upsetting the fish can we?

Just more from the Brexit farce, why has fishing become so critical? or is this part of flag waving territorial, chest beating?

Don't Toodles - I love a bit of Tuna from the Ascension Islands.

Strange logic. Unless the country is a island nation, how does its size determine the size of its fishing waters?

France has land borders with 8 countries. Metropolitan France's coastline is 3,427k long. Compare that with the 12,429k of UK coastline. Do you fish in French waters?

I'd say the French are more patriotic and nationalistic than the English.

So who's surprised that the fishery business is kicking off?

Because you have to be all kinds of stupid not to realise this was going to happen post Brexit.

You'll also be surprised when the IRA (or what ever they want to call themselves now) start blowing up out cities.

Don't tell me a Francophile like you has never been inconvenienced by French blockade protests?

That is what the French do. They got publicity for their cause and the people of Jersey were reassured on security.

In comparison to our coastline the French Waters are even more minuscule, the Chanel & Med fishing areas are negligible and even the Biscay are is shared by the Spaniards.

    A) Not personally tbh. I prefer ferries to flights, so the annual air traffic control strike never affects me.....However, the tractor blockade of le Tour a couple of years ago, did briefly occupy my tv screen.

    B) I understand it was someone on the British side of the talks, who caused the misunderstanding. Can't say I blame the French fishers for getting worried.

We have been on a cruise ship refused landing at Le Havre due to a Port workers strike

Another time a flight was diverted in a baggage handlers strike.

What about the French Naval ships?

    Quote
"...............A day later, France answered with its own deployment of two naval patrol ships near the island, which lies just 14 miles off the French coast. French officials said the ships had been sent to protect the “safety of human life at sea” in the crowded waters off Jersey’s capital, St. Helier. British papers published video of a French trawler ramming the stern of a British pleasure craft; no one was hurt."
