The residents of Southport have become very experienced waiting about for these World Class Attractions. The last 'World Class Attraction - complete with an Olympic Size Pool - and ...........we get Splash World, which is hardly ever open, and without my tape measure I would estimate that it does not measure up to anything like an Olympic Size Pool.
Don't hold your breath - if it does come off, you will need rose tinted blinkers and a magnifying glass when you go to view it. Some of the older residents in this town say there has been nothing built in the past seventy years in Southport which has not been a disappointment.

Were you expecting it to have been built during a pandemic in the 7 months since the exclusivity agreement was announced?

He didn’t actually say he wanted it built tho, he just asked a simple question, nothing wrong with that.

When was an Olympic sized pool ever promised?
If you're referring to the indoor water park that was supposed to be part of Ocean Plaza there was never any intention for it to include an Olympic sized pool.

When it had been first announced, it was claimed that there was to be an Olympic sized swimming pool, which would have been of great benefit to the many in Southport who are training for swimming events but have to use outside swimming pools - like Ormskirk baths instead, if I am right.
This building now requires more investment for refurbishment it is just over twelve years old?? Compare that to the Victorian Baths on the Promenade which are more than a hundred years old. As soon as it is known that a government/council contract is in the offering, it is wide open to corruption. Large amounts of money are an attraction for venues such as these, but they are built using the cheapest materials. They reduce the visual aspect of the whole town. One particular Costing Surveyor working on a local contract said to me once, "You work out how much everything, every little thing will cost - then add a bit more on, then you double the cost of the work and add on half as much again. Local councils won't know, they have not got a clue how to do costing". It would be wise for each council to employ their own costing surveyors, it would save the tax payer £Millions.

I remember this, the Olympic pool was the big idea at the time, the whole new plan for the baths was sold to the public as if it would include such a pool. It was constantly in the visiter and older members of the town will remember this.

The works required to Splashworld are due to latent defects from the time of construction.
https://modgov.sefton.gov.uk/documen...s%20tender.pdf
I'm well aware of the Splashworld Site and its history. The car parks were there before Splashworld was added on to the existing swimming baths which had already been extended with the gym and sports hall. There were no plans for a larger facility on that site. The plans were originally for a different facility where KFC and the Guelder Rose are. There were never any plans for an Olympic size pool on either site.
As for your claims of costs doubling, which local contract was this? In your imagination probably. If you have evidence of corruption I presume you have reported it to the relevant authorities.
The council do employ their own quantity surveyors.

Have you lived in Southport long? Or do you work for the council? Southport is starved of facilities - and when we do get them they are reduced in size. It is a well known fact! What happened to Urban Splash? the proposed Ice Rink? etc.,
Local people cannot understand why a council would not put every effort into creating and maintaining high standards for Southport, it used to attract a huge tourist trade and has always had the potential to attract more. The next nearest beach, with all amenities is St. Anne's. For people from the Midlands, Manchester and Bolton - Southport is the nearest beach. If you are managing a multi faceted business, you concentrate on the areas which are more likely to bring in higher profits, the other areas would gain in a rebound effect. But Sefton are not known for their business acumen.
The council do not have Quantity Surveyor's on their pay roll constantly - that would make no sense. They probably hire them on an ad hoc basis. If the council do employ their own then there is a problem with the Council's Quantity Surveyor?? For every project undertaken in Southport, the contract has run over on both time and costs, a cost which the tax payer has to bear - somewhat incompetent that Quantity Surveyor, or is he underqualified perhaps?
Corruption? Don't be so naive? A private conversation can only ever be that - a simple denial makes it useless.

Private investment that the developers changed their minds about due to changing national economics. The council cannot force private companies to spend their money if they decide not to.

This site alone is testament to the fact that a lot of local people don't understand a lot of things. Your good self being one of the prime examples.

Yes they do, as there are always building contracts ongoing throughout the year every year. Here's approx £40million worth for the current year https://modgov.sefton.gov.uk/documen...o%20202526.pdf
