Hamas a barrier to a temporary ceasefire.
Quote
"The United States on Monday accused Hamas of being the barrier to a temporary ceasefire in Gaza, adding that Israel had moved in a “significant way” to submit a reasonable proposal in the ongoing hostage talks.
“There’s a deal on the table that would achieve much of what Hamas claims it wants to achieve, and they have not taken that deal,” US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a briefing.
The comments came after Hamas rejected the terms of last week’s Cairo proposal for a hostage-truce deal, and then presented US, Qatari, and Egyptian mediators with a counter-offer of its own. Neither the US-drafted Cairo proposal nor Hamas’s response has been published, and there have been multiple, sometimes contradictory reports, on their content.
“The bottom line is that they have rejected it, and if they did accept it, it would allow for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza of at least six weeks, which would benefit the Palestinian people whom they claim to represent. It would also allow us to continue improvements in the delivery of humanitarian assistance,” said Miller.
“The bottom line is Hamas needs to take that deal, and they need to explain to the world and to the Palestinian people why they aren’t taking it because it is Hamas right now that is the barrier and the obstacle to a ceasefire in Gaza,” he added......."

Hamble good afternoon.
Unfortunately Hamas are playing a very dangerous game by not accepting the deal for a ceasefire and return of those hostages.
I’m sure they are holding out, as most of those young women are pregnant by now..
The hostages families are fighting the Israeli government day and night to get those hostages home…quite rightly too.
Seems most of those pro Palestinian supporters seem to forget the brutality they are suffering.
If Hamas pitied their people in Gaza they would take the offer of a ceasefire.

At the beginning of the war I assumed Palestinian supporters in the UK were afraid of repercussions from Islamists.
There is no excuse now.
If you support Palestine march against Hamas not Israel.

Hamas spurns latest hostage deal proposal, demands permanent ceasefire
Left: Yahya Sinwar, head of Hamas in Gaza, Gaza City, April 30, 2022. (AP Photo/Adel Hana) Right: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, December 10, 2023. (Ronen Zvulun/Pool Photo via AP)
Hamas poured cold water Saturday on the latest proposal for a temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages it holds, insisting it wants a complete end to the war.
Israel said the rejection of the proposal shows that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar is not interested in a humanitarian agreement, and is instead trying to take advantage of tensions with Iran that boiled into open warfare as Tehran fired hundreds of drones, cruise, and ballistic missiles at Israel overnight.
…
Hamas announced it had submitted its response to the latest hostage deal proposal and that it was sticking to its original demands for a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the entirety of Gaza, the return of Palestinians to northern Gaza and other areas, a surge in humanitarian aid and the start of the Strip’s reconstruction.
Those demands are nonstarters for Israel.

No surprises then. Both antagonists are acting true to form!
It is wholly wrong and unfair to suggest that proponents of a just solution to this interminable conflict are unmoved by "the brutality" inflicted by one side on the other. |

Good evening PNP
Rather a catch 22 for Israel. Damned if they do
Damned if they don’t.
If it’s a permanent ceasefire, Hamas will be around to rule again. Iranian style.
Going into Rafah , Israel will be scorned by the world, causing the deaths most likely of the hostages.

Same could be said for Hamas...If they agree to just a temporary ceasefire and give up the hostages, Israel can then flatten the rest of Gaza and its population with impunity.

There is a pernicious supposition in many posts that the only way to suppress and eventually eliminate the terrorist threat is to kill tens of thousands and destroy Gaza's infrastructure — ultimately, to subdue the Palestinians altogether.
It is necessary to recall that it has been Israeli governments' tactic to actively disrupt Palestinians' political development. Israel has created its supposed dilemma through its own intransigence.
Hamas has flourished over years because Israel's uncompromising Zionists had long determined not to concede territory for a Palestinian state or alternatively, to grant full rights of citizenship to the Land of Israel's non-Jewish residents.

As Golda Meir said in 1973, “for the Palestinians it’s not about land, it’s a case of eradicating Jews”.
Islamism has had this agenda for thousands of years. . It’s passed on from generation to generation.
Let’s face it, there will never be peace in the Middle East.

Might interest you , this interview. Things haven’t changed. Oh, possibly that Islam has spread at a terrific pace, to most Western countries, including the UK.
That is quite a change. Can you imagine the UK being governed by a government of Mullahs.

Golda Meir
Wiki
Quote
"Golda Mabovitch was born into a Ukrainian-Jewish family[8] in downtown Kiev in what was then the Russian Empire on May 3, 1898.[9] She was the daughter of Blume Neiditch (died 1951) and Moshe Mabovitch (died 1944), a carpenter. Meir wrote in her autobiography that her earliest memories were of her father boarding up the front door in response to rumours of an imminent pogrom.
Meir's father, Moshe, left the country to find work in New York City in 1903.
........
Golda Meir moved to Palestine after marriage in 1921 the immigration delayed by WW1.
Her passport (as she says in Shippy's link) was to Mandatory Palestine.
As she was explaining 'Palestinian's' were not just the Arab population of the area.Anyone who lived immigrated or claimed asylum who was born or died there of any religion was Palestinian at that time in history.
Arab Palestinian's identified their religion and culture with the land area name started to use the term 'Palestinian' exclusively denying the shared history with Christian's and Jews.
The interviewer would not have got away today with asking an immigrant if it was 'fair' to choose another country to live in legally
especially one that advertised for workers on the land.
