Having a coffee on Lord St , yesterday . And as I'm an admirer of architecture I noticed the name of some buildings opposite Brighouses , named , Masonicbuildings, any one know if these building are linked to freemasonary.

Yes, that was the previous Freemason's Lodge before they moved to Duke Street.

yes they where,i believe down the jigger (soz scouserhaha)the back alley thats now the cinema.theira alot of maso influence about the town architectures.

Oh, yes. Forgot about that one completely - Southport Reporter stated

"THE former Southport Lodge's Masonic Hall, is hidden on Post Office Avenue, Southport and dates back to 1922. The building since the Freemasons moved out in 1958, it has changed usage, becoming offices for Sefton Council, falling in to disrepair and then being earmarked for demolition, until its listings saved it. The building was then purchased by the Adams family and repurposed again as a restaurant, opening as The Latin Lounge. The venue in 2006 changed to become the Letter Box Cocktail Bar and Saffron Lounge, but changed back a year later to The Latin Lounge. Now the property has again been extensively refurbished throughout and given a new lease of life as a community cinema. If you are not 100% as to the location of the venue, it is situated just off Lord Street, interconnecting with both the business and retail areas of the Town, at the side of Sainsbury’s. Its location makes it exceptionally well positioned for the retail amenities, hotels, other entertainment and leisure businesses, along with the Town’s public transport links."

The building was the Motor Tax and Driving Licence office when that was a Council function it was later used sporadically as office accommodation, Sainsburys looked at taking it on and demolishing it for expansion.

I did not know about the Eastbank Street one. Would that have been round by the Arcade?

It's OK! I have just found it, it was located just before Part Street. It looks like the same block where Tesco's is.

That is not a nice comment to someone with dyslexia. There are very few trade Stone Masons/Stone Carvers around now in the UK and I doubt if any of the Lodge Masons, at least here in Southport - would have a clue how to go about it.

I have just asked a prominent member of our lodge who seems to think that they moved out of Post Office Ave in 1957. He had no knowledge of any other building being used !
