GAS for BBQ!
Anyone know where I can get gas for a BBQ, I currently have the homebase/BP gas bottles. But they are empty.
The garages have none, and obviously homebase has gone.
Now I did go to B&Q, Very helpfully told me I couldn't have a gas bottle, not even under a new contract i.e. without a bottle exchange... Well unless of course I buy a new BBQ off them... This attitude has probably lost them a customer for anything in the future...
Any how, The problem is it's my Mum's 80th on Saturday and obviously with this mad virus going round we are not going to be in the house. So a BBQ was settled on. But it's not going to be that great with raw food....

What type of bottle is it, metal or a plastic green/cream. If it's green/cream plastic then it will be Flogas. You can buy/exchange online, free delivery.

If it isn't Flogas another option is to buy some cheap disposable BBQ's not ideal but better than nothing or do as I do as I personally can't stand bbq's cook in the oven/grill and eat outside

Homebase stores are reopening, don't know what the local situation is, but for gas try caravan dealers or accessory stores, Red Lion caravans or caravan and camping on Eastbank street.

Thanx, ordered from Flogas now :-)
B&Q are going to get as little of my money as possible from this day forward. Disgusting attitude towards customers.

What counts, is whether it's butane, propane or a butane/propane mix. Also the type of regulator fitting. I'd suggest phoning one or two local gas suppliers, to see if they have a compatible bottle. If necessary/practical, even take the bbq along to confirm your regulator fits another make of bottle.
In the worst case, consider permanently switching to an alternative make of gas that is always available, by buying and fitting a new regulator. Might cost you a bit, but it's only a one-time cost. You can then sell your redundant gas bottle online to get some of your deposit back.

It wasn't the cost that was the issue, I was happy to buy their bottle and regulator. They wouldn't sell me one without a new BBQ.
Sorted now, Ordered from Flogas online.

Glad you are sorted.
I have a similar problem with a Sodastream gas cylinder. It's from an old model and I no longer have the machine. I can only get it taken if I exchange it for another cylinder and as I don't need any more cylinders I am stuck with it. Veolia won't take it either. Not that I would, but I can see why people dump stuff.

The problem as Ceam found is you buy the BBQ & all likelihood the gas at the same time, Homebase charges for the bottle and gas which isn't cheap. Once empty you return to HB for a refill and pay just for the gas, easy to do when they are still open but with Southport, Formby & Preston closing there aren't any locally, and you can only swap like for like if you try other gas stockists, Flogas isn't as easy to come-by as say Calor.

The weather isn't looking very barbecue like this weekend at 11 centigrade still it's supposed to be dry.

Sad, a very well stocked shop, don’t know if the staff I met was the owner, but knew what he was talking about, guided me to the right water pump after one manufacturer had gone out of business.
