southport beach packed all weekend... Liverpool echo do storys on all other beaches but not here LoL
Sefton Council appear to go even further. They are promoting Merseyrail as a service between Liverpool and Southport, with stations all along the coast with beaches being just a short walk away from the stations.
In other words - attempting to draw people away from Southport.
BID on their promotional posters were informing people that Southport Centre is a great shopping area, no need to go to the beach.
Surely it is obvious to everyone in Southport - The multitude of councillors from South of Formby want to close Southport as a resort down, Southport attracts far more tourists than Liverpool! (Liverpool Claims to have 68.7 million visitors last year?? London figures are 27.6 million visitors - go figure??)

Where are the council promoting Merseyrail? Evidence please.
Merseyrail will quite rightly want to get as many passengers to as many of their stations as they can.
Why shouldn't BID promote the town centre? That is where most of their contributors are.
Please provide evidence of BID saying there's no need to go to the beach.
I doubt Southport could cope with all of Formby, Crosby, New Brighton and West Kirby visitors on top of the tens of thousands who were here at the weekend.

"…you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone …"
The dune system is the notable attraction of the local coastline. Southport built on its dunes leaving a humdrum beach with an enormous intertidal zone — good for safe Air Show aerobatics, etc. but otherwise unremarkable.
Human intervention can destroy dune ecology which in any case is dynamic. Climate change is apt to wreak havoc, too! Too much exploitation of any resource risks killing the goose that laid the golden egg.
…They [i.e. Sefton Council] are promoting Merseyrail as a service between Liverpool and Southport, with stations all along the coast with beaches being just a short walk away from the stations. | In other words - attempting to draw people away from Southport.

Unlikely that Sefton Council are promoting Merseyrail at all.
As for the Southport Business Improvement District, its raison d'etre is promoting its member business
— duh!

mr southport you are quite funny.. southport beach was packed no mention in the echo they talked about all the other beaches though
Links?
Currently on the Echo website there appears to be 7 stories about Formby, 1 Ainsdale and one about New Brighton being left in a mess and one general which is mostly about Ainsdale - 5 pics to New Brightons 3 the only other mention was 'Elsewhere cars were spotted queuing to get to Formby beach and car parks were packed surrounding Crosby beach and marina.'

Well I've been through 3 days worth of Echo News and the only mention of beaches is stabbings and people getting caught by the tide at Formby. So when we're they talking about other beaches?
Anyway I thought we didn't want to be associated with Liverpool so why bemoan a lack of attention from its media? You can't have it both ways.
More to the point where are qlocal's reports of a bumper weekend for the town?

Where is Sefton Council mentioned in your link? The link devotes 2 short paragraphs to Crosby and Formby, and a much larger paragraph to Southport. It then goes on to suggest Blackpool as a destination. Is Blackpool in Sefton?

Try reading your source material more thoroughly. The figure of 68.7 million visitors is the combined Liverpool City Region total, not just the city of Liverpool. Sefton is included in the total. And your theory that Southport gets more visitors than Liverpool is ludicrous. According to the mySefton site, in 2018 Southport had 9.2 million visitors.
