So facilities for the people who are already living in Southport should be completely dismissed? Selling point should be how many people would come to the sea front - and nothing else??

    How is that even credible?

Your blinkered response entirely typifies how the public in this town have cast the football club aside without even realising it's potential. Sadly, if influencial public representatives share your view, nothing will ever flourish for the local community - it'll always be for visitors with fat wallets. Go and ride around Blackpool - that's exactly what's gone on there for decades. Do you want that for Southport?

So why would Bliss invest in the Burscough curves?

Nobody says lets go to southport and look at victorian buildings

Nobody will come to Southprt anyway as there's nothing here and what little there is is closed. Pier closed at 9:30 this morning with literally hundereds on the seafront. Parts of the new seafront development were never opened from the last build, the lake is always full of rubbish and with the proposed new cycle lanes any family looking to have a two week holiday will not sit in queues of traffic, they'll go to Blackpool where they can drive down a motorway to within a few miles of the town and then a dedicated bypass road straight into the middle of town.

Given that Sefton Council own the current ground on Haig Avenue - which is a less than ideal location for a football ground, why isn't anyone putting forward a proposal to release the land for affordable housing (in keeping with the location) and giving SFC a chance to flourish as a community resource in a new, purpose-built location?

Why must it always be about the seafront and Lord Street?
It's a good idea in theory but who's going to pay for it? The football club couldn't afford to build a new stadium.

It's not necessarily one thing instead of the other. Bliss want to develop their Promenade site with their money. That doesn't prevent the football club exploring relocation options if it was affordable for them.

Isn't this money the £38.5 million the town is supposed to have been granted by the Government?

The article isn't the easiest read, with mention of the Government money, Sefton Council, Bliss, BIP, Genr8, HOK and IPW as being involved with 'investing'.

No this is private investment by Bliss. The government grant is for the conference centre where the theatre and floral hall currently are. They own the area and buildings where the bliss hotel, casino etc are.

The government money can only be spent on the projects it was applied to cover, so no it can't be used on the curves

Yet the town has been heaving all weekend. Perhaps visitors think more of the town than some of the miserable locals.

Places being shut at half 9 on a Sunday morning is hardly surprising but I doubt there was nowhere open at all. Maybe take a flask next time.

Well we got screwed by the last revamp of market hall. (20,000 footfall)
Nobody’s to blame we £60,000 consultants.
Now market is being turned into a school dining room.
The Strand at present is worth approximately 4 million less than we paid.
Now the prom is going to be another white elephant, sorry but maintaining the
Victorian theme. What price this time for consultants.
Hey , poor mayor of Liverpool under investigation. There’ll be a lot more investigations
over next 3years . Whistleblowers wanted , good rates of pay.

The directors of most large companies don't live where their outlets are based and all of these companies have large debt portfolios and is Southport now only accepting investment from local people?
