    Boris the new Cult

Just about the most accurate vision of this country at the Moment, people being lured into believing Johnson is the be all and end all when in fact he hasn't got an ounce of decency in him.

A dangerous cult now runs Britain – the worshippers at the Temple of Johnson | Marina Hyde | The Guardian

I think people are perfectly aware of his faults - they just don't like any of the alternatives on offer and are prepared to put up with him until someone better comes along from whichever party.

    Good article. Liked this bit

"In many ways, Johnson is the much more classic cult leader. His decisions have led to the deaths of large numbers of people, and he’s got a lot of women pregnant"

The damage Joris and the Bonsonites have done and will do, is irreparable. They've caused harm to the UK and their actions might end up tearing it up entirely.

The problem is more with the shrinking group of people who thought Corbyn and his acolyte Starmer or even worse Jo anti democracy Swinson were or are in anyway electable.

We know he's not perfect but more importantly know we have never and will never get a leader everyone will find "perfect"

The job of the failing opposition is to find a set of policies and an electable alternative.

Whinging you lost, is not a sign of an intelligent opposition.

Blaming the electorate for your failures is beyond stupidity.

Writing he has got a lot of women pregnant is odd.

They chose him to have sex with.

    No accounting for taste !

I posted on another thread this Country is on a very dangerous path to a one party state as you point out the alternatives are non existent.

It seems a long long time since Every Party had some great Statesmen but now they are all much of a muchness with no one you could point out and say I wish he/she was Prime Minister.

I'm not sure what the opposition is supposed to offer to an electorate who are happy to put up with lies, incompetence and corruption.

That's your problem you don't understand that the electorate are grownups and look at the bigger picture.

The examples we are given are not off putting compared to the problems with the opposition.

You lot really are the Cream! You read a nonsensical article by an ex- SUN journalist, sacked by the way - who now writes just three articles a week for the Guardian - causing the Guardian having to pay out large libel fees on her behalf, who has won a number of minor awards due to her being the daughter of Sir Alastair Edgcumbe James Dudley-Williams, 2nd Baronet - and also the wife of a BBC Director. I doubt very much if this lady has a clue about British Politics.

Since 2016 the UK is doing pretty well considering all the devastation said to occur if the UK left the EU, and which never materialised. Switzerland, while never a full member of the EU, in the same year, by the way also rejected it's membership of the EU - but without all the threats, and is also doing far better now.

None of the Prime Ministers actually run the country. To be able to do so, they would need to be a mastermind of every conceivable topic. No - decisions are discussed among various agencies, those decisions face another main panel, (Conservative at present) then a legal panel before being put to a Prime Minister to rehearse and to announce them publicly. That is the reason why no Prime Minister can be held liable in a court of law.

No additional lives have been lost - by checking the national figures for annual deaths in the UK over the past ten years, you can see that the graphs show a decline over the past year. History has made it very clear - one must always be careful of that which one is told.

Like the grown ups in Hartlepool blaming their former Labour MP for hospital closures and police cuts during 10 years of Conservative government. Or the ones praising the Conservatives for the increase in food banks.

So where are you getting your figures from? I’m certainly very careful about where I get my information from. Certainly not from a Covid denying, conspiracy theory nutter who posts nothing but drivel on this forum.

'Almost 80,000 more people in England and Wales died last year than the preceding 5-year average, and the death toll continues to rise at a shocking rate. In 2020, the UK had one of the highest rates of excess deaths in the world, with more excess deaths per million people than most other European countries and the US.

It isn’t that simple is it?

The current Tory government have reacted financially in a very unTory way, I am very aware that exceptional circumstances require exceptional actions, but these are the same Tories who slated Gordon Brown when he rescued the banking system, who ridiculed Corbyn’s spending plans with much reference to magic money trees etc, etc:

Certainly the financial assistance was needed, but Tories must have found an entire forest of money trees, considering that Tories have wholeheartedly adopted so much of Labour type policies, they have left Labour with nowhere to go.

Any return to austerity type policies will see a change, but for now as we have seen, both locally and nationally voters have in the main stuck with those in charge through the pandemic.

    Still your source is biased.

    It is not over yet.
UK is not the worst EU country even if it was you are blaming and setting the future tone against the morality of allowing poverty stricken migrants to come to the UK live with poverty stricken Brits.

Funny how 'Free movement' has gone out of fashion with the Left.

    Excellent point.

It has to be said, I'm not seeing a real opposition right now. Of course they have to walk a fine line between opposing and supporting the government during a pandemic, but there have been several times I'd expect Starmer to vote against them and he's complied meekly.

The 'now is not the time' line has been trotted out too many times for my liking.

And yes, the voting public, as seen on Question Time, don't like to be called 'stupid', but when they blame Labour for the closing of police stations and hospital wards, or praise the Tories for food banks, it's an easy conclusion to jump to.

And as gaza said, a large amount of the public simply don't care. They aren't engaged in politics. If they can get the pubs open and holidays to Benidorm back on the agenda, that's fine.

I do find it disturbing that a PM and government so utterly corrupt can continue unchecked. But until the effects of this are felt at grass roots level, or the voting system is changed from the archaic FPTP to a more representative model, I don't see anything changing soon.

    Just a couple of points

Calling anything or anyone nonsensical is a bit pot black kettleish.

The journalist in question is from a well heeled family has been sacked twice and knows nothing about Politics. You could be talking about de Pfeffel.

Three articles a Week for The Guardian is more impressive than 10 a day on QLocal.
