Of the larger EU Countries the UK has consistently had the highest death toll for the last year and has fared worse than many 'Third World' countries. When the day of reckoning comes we will need to know why we have fared worse than comparable countries, Italy has a worse toll (per 000,000) which could be explained by the fact that it was where it first started spreading rapidly in Europe but France, Germany, Spain have fared better and Sweden much better.

It is more accurate to count excess deaths and total deaths per million.
