They should have realised that temporary bollards like these would 'disappear' - and kept spares to replace missing ones as necessary......The best solution would be to make the lane permanent, by placing a double line of kerbing with 1ft of tarmac infill between, like on Fairway.

Couldn't you find a few friends to go with.
The numbers using it doesn't support a more permanent cycle lane.
I can't understand how the fixings could be an issue they are all in a straight line.
Maybe he fell off for other reasons.

Thanks for the link. Maybe with the possibility of a damages/compensation case on the horizon, Sefton might address the problem. I hope the gentleman soon recovers and hasn’t been put off cycling by the unnecessary incident.

"The best solution would be to make the lane permanent, by placing a double line of kerbing with 1ft of tarmac infill between, like on Fairway."
No, the best solution would be to scrap this idiotic scheme, which was probably dreamt up by some clown locked in a dark room somewhere in Bootle.
Last Tuesday I was 30 minutes early for my appointment at Hoghton St Dental practice so while waiting out side I though I would see how many cyclists rode past...answer, None!
As for the fairways, I walk regularly along the Marine drive in the direction of the old sand plant, there are two lanes, one for pedestrians and the outside lane for cyclists, they even have a picture of a bicycle drawn on the tarmac every few yards in case they can't read, so you would think most of them would stick to the cycle lane....Wrong!

Are you sure it wasn’t an appointment at Specsavers you were waiting for?
I regularly drive through and around Southport. The last couple of weeks has seen a massive uptake in cycling in Southport and the associated use of the cycle lanes. The weather has definitely helped, but it shows their use increasing.

And keep more spares for when they too go missing?

There isn't a massive uptake, I use that cycle lane now and again and always on my own.

If it saves just one life, it's worth having - that life saved could be yours!

Yes, Marine Drive is clearly marked, but since neither cyclists nor pedestrians use the correct lanes, a lot of tolerance is required. Then of course you get the lycra clads who are too superior to use cycle lanes, they use the road instead and hold the traffic up. The Hoghton Street cycle lanes, broken bollards or not, is dangerous because there is a sharp camber in parts to the gutter and drains are set parallel to the road in places. The Talbot Street cycle lane is a joke - no sooner had they put these in place than there are road works being carried out with cones and plastic barriers placed right across the single cycle lane.

No it doesn't - it is just a novelty at present.
