Proposed Boundary Changes for Southport
Plans to change the borders of Southport’s parliamentary constituency have been described as “bonkers” by one of the seat’s former MPs.
Proposals released by the independent boundary commission on Tuesday (June 8) would see the Southport seat expand into West Lancashire while losing Ainsdale to Sefton Central across its southern border.
The main impact of the changes would be to make Southport a more strongly Conservative seat as it loses one of its more marginal wards and gains four Tory-voting areas.
The area is currently represented by Merseyside’s only Conservative MP, Damien Moore, who won the seat from the Liberal Democrats in 2017 and increased his small majority to just more than 4,000 votes in 2019 Liverpool Echo.
If it means that councillors will co-operate with one another to improve Southport and outlying areas, then I am all for it.

natural constituency boundary for Southport

Surely the 'natural' boundary of our community is between Ainsdale and Freshfield/Formby rather than an arbitrary line down a street somewhere in Ainsdale/Hillside, with one side of the street having a different MP to the other side.

The party in power invariably tinkers with boundaries, to favour themselves at the next election.....Which does nothing to address the one major problem with our system of voting. Namely, that it ensures we remain permanently locked into a stifling two-party system of government.
A Parliament should reflect the many different views of the population, not just the same two hackneyed old camps.

I know that Immortality is the hope of the Tory Party with those horrible working classes and unemployed and disabled all banished to some pseudo Leper Colony. Wouldn't it be a refreshing change if they actually started thinking about EVERYBODY and worked to make life easier and better for all instead of just gerrymandering to increase the self superiority of their rich donors/blue rinse Tory fanbase and to hell with the commoners.
Everywhere you turn there are claims of Racism Homophobia but no one ever mentions the Tory Hatred of everyone not of the same ilk.

You talk in cliches belonging to a different century. Plenty of working class people vote Conservative (standing by for the usual villification of stupid, ignorant, racist voters). Plenty of conservatives are not homophobic etc and when it comes right down to it the blue rinse Tory fan-base, if there really is such a thing, have as much a right to an equal vote as everyone else, including those who dismiss all voters who don't vote the way they want them to.
Boundary commission changes happen regularly at predictable intervals. Every time there is a change someone cries foul but the process is necessary to ensure poplulation changes don't result in under-representation. If Labour were in power the Tories would be complaining. Unless you want a system whereby the constituencies never change? Or maybe big cities and rural areas should have the same number of MPs based on area not population?

I know that - but if Southport is placed within those boundaries, there will be far more support for our own councillors than there is at present, and they will be able to work closer together.
It would be far better for Southport to come out of Merseyside completely because if the local council are unable to recognise the benefits of Southport in nine years - they are never likely to be able to do so. Just look at the present looney proposals for Southport, what idiot dreamed those up?

Our town councillors won't be working with counclllors from Banks or Tarleton etc.
The changes have nothing to do with council affairs. Southport and Ainsdale will remain under Sefton Council but Ainsdale residents will have a Labour MP to represent them in parliament though I doubt they'd work harmoniously alongside Damien Moore.

Or indeed the stigmatisation of millions of blameless people who happen to have caught a disease. It is the "N word" of my world.

The people of Ainsdale do NOT want to be split from Southport and lumped in with Crosby & Aintree. We are part of Southport and we have 2 out of 3 councillors from the Conservative party so why on earth would we want a Labour MP?
I'm only happy when it rains....
