It is worth the wait.
I seem to know more people who have tested positive this last couple of weeks.
Infection his high in my area.
Over 18's been offered surge vaccination in some clinics.
Greater Manchester residents asked not to travel out of the area if they
can possibly avoid it.

Inevitable really. We should have restricted travel from India at the same time as Pakistan and Bangladesh, but it's done now and we've got to deal with it.
One thing that disturbed me more than the extension to the lockdown until July was Johnson saying there's a possibility of a 'new, more dangerous variant' arriving before then.
Makes me think that they know about it already.

"Due to the variant having first been discovered in the country, and following the precedent of calling B.1.1.7 the "UK variant", many media outlets have referred to B.1.617 as the "Indian variant",[20][21][22] contrary to recommendations and internal policies used by the World Health Organization (WHO) that "discourage" the use of names that "stigmatize countries", particularly the ones conducting important work in genome sequencing.[23][24][25][26] In Scotland, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon stated that its government would refer to it as "April-02".[27]
On 21 May 2021, India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology ordered social media companies to remove all posts that refer to or imply an "Indian variant" of SARS-CoV-2, classifying it as misinformation because the WHO does not recognize an "Indian variant" of SARS-CoV-2 as per its policies.[28]"

Agreed.
Travel probably wasn't restricted for reasons connected to that planned visit of Johnson to Delhi for an in-person meet with Modi.
India should have been added to the red list earlier than Pakistan and Bangladesh. The current Indian COVID wave's noticeable onset was from about mid-March. It was clear by the end of March that the trajectory would continue to rocket.
It's thirteen months on from the first lockdown and this level of pathetic decision-making is inexcusable.

"The detection of B.1.617 was hampered in some countries by a lack of specialised kits for the variant and laboratories that can perform the genetic test.[112][113] For example, as of 18 May, Pakistan had not reported any cases, but authorities noted that 15% of COVID-19 samples in the country were of an "unknown variant"; they could not say if it was B.1.617 because they were unable to test for it. Other countries had reported travellers arriving from Pakistan that were infected with B.1.617.[112]"
I am not ready to judge the Gov yet as we are still living through decision making and new Covid variations.
Certainly going on data India and other countries are excellent on Covid Genome Sequencing but erratic in reporting of data on infections and deaths.

Irregardless of whether a more transmissible variant had been pinpointed (although it was suspected), the Indian case rates were on a steep upward trajectory (in a country in which there was always going to be under-reporting issues). The reckless decision-making re the Kumbh Mela and the inevitable effect that was having and was going to continue to be having on the spread of the virus in India was already obvious and visible. Leaving open the India-UK travel route was only going to result in importing cases into this country.
Sure enough: an extra four weeks of avoidable pain for businesses and the economy (and extra disease and death spread) - and this courtesy of the political party that markets itself as "the party of business."

I get your point.
Difficult decision for the Government not to allow British Nationals back from India into their own Country.
The financial burden and missing out on Covid vaccination would be harsh.

It wasn’t a question of allowing or not allowing British Nationals back into the country, it was allowing all those returns unchecked, now we find that the UK has travel restrictions and quarantine applied by other countries, it’s becoming more which countries will allow UK travellers, rather than were our government decrees where we can or can’t go.

We are now in the situation of not being able to hold a proper Funeral with a Wake or a proper Wedding Reception or even go for a pint in a pub but we can fly off to another country for an orgy and then return to this country unhindered but still not go for 'a hair of the dog'. Surely the government's priorities should be getting this country back to domestic functionality before appeasing the airline's, travel companies and a few foreign countries who want the money we spend when those pounds would be better spent in this country.

We have done brilliantly with our vaccination programme - led the world - but now is the time when Boris should be moving our people out of the "fear" mode and into the world of the living. Take back control from the scientists and their, often inaccurate, modelling and opening up our country for our people to enjoy what is left of summer.
We have done what we had to do and we have come through some bad times where covid was measured in the number of deaths. Now, they don't talk of deaths, they talk of "cases". Most of these "cases" suffer such mild symptoms - or none atall - that they are probably unaware they are unwell.
I said weeks ago that there are probably more deaths from influenza now than there are from covid.
Lo and behold the figures were published yesterday that the latest weekly data from the Office for National Statistics show that there were 84 deaths mentioning covid in the week ending 11th June. In the same period there were 1,163 involving flu and pneumonia.

The reason our country has one of the worst numbers for Covid deaths is because Johnson ignored scientific advice. He’s made a complete pigs ear of the whole pandemic.
