The 2021 Orange Lodge Parade will not take place in Southport, while a scaled down parade due to take place in Liverpool has been postponed until the end of July.
Organisers of the event have moved the date of the parade from 12th July to 31st July due to the current Covid-19 restrictions in place, after the proposed date of ‘Freedom Day’ and the relaxation of restrictions was delayed from 21st June to a possible date of 19th July.
The parade will now go ahead in Liverpool only on that date.
The decision was made following discussions with Merseyside Police.
The march brings thousands of visitors into Southport town centre every year, providing a substantial boost for a number of local businesses.

It’s about time this display of atavistic hate was permanently brought to a end. Every year it’s the same. We have to avoid our town centre and public parks because a band of drunken bigots want to dress up as toy soldiers and sing about their hatred for Catholics.

It ruins our town and the residents of Southport don’t want it and we should vote to get rid of it once and for all.

The only businesses that benefit are the bars, and even then they have to set any profits off against repairing damage, cleaning up and replacing broken glassware.
How about a poll of the residents of our town to see whether we want this event back next year?
Let's get rid of them for good.

Hopefully, after not being in Southport for a second consecutive year, this outdated demonstration of one religion lording over another will cease for good. For the majority, the Orange Day Parade is no more than an excuse to come into the Town, get drunk, and generally make a nuisance of themselves.

That is the "Best news I have heard" since last years march was cancelled, this should be the right time for these parades to be permanently stopped,as some town centre pub landlords and staff hate the followers, and many shopkeepers also, and,as for many generations of Southport residents........It will be something that should have been stopped decades ago.
