Just two weeks away
In just two weeks, the government say it will be optional for people to wear masks, etc., Will you continue to wear yours? Will you continue to distance? Will you still use hand sanitisers?

Yes, yes, & yes
Mask in shops for some time yet, on public transport/taxis probably always. I have always kept a social distance, I hate it when people I hardly know invade my personal space, I have always found handshaking uncomfortable. With hand washing I was brought up by parents who were both nurses so it was never an issue, I've always washed my hands regularly, I was in work one day and someone commented "was I scrubbing for surgery" I've used hand sanitizer for donkeys’ years, epically after exiting a strange loo as you don't know who been using it and if they've bothered to wash their hands. One thing I wasn't doing but will certainly continue to do so is wiping down supermarket basket/trolley handles.

I usually avoid touching them, by wrapping paper towel around the basket/trolley handle at the store entrance. My pet hates are touchscreen cashpoints, as it's necessary to press the screen where many other peoples fingers have been - eek!

I've not used a cash point since the beginning of Covid, can't say I've used cash very often either. Can't remember the last time I bought anything with cash even things costing less than a ÂŁ1

Let's put it this way, this is my current situation.
I have a small engineering workshop in Southport. Only 3 of us inc. me.
Of them...
My daughter is currently self isolating as someone she has been in contact with at school has Covid 19. I'm very confident she will not get it as she is supper careful even though the school has eased their position on the virus, Which has now flashed through the school.
My work college currently has his eldest daughter self isolating at her boy friends house has he has Covid 19 also his eldest son has as of to day been put into isolation as someone he's been in contact with at school has Covid 19.
My apprentice has phoned me today to say he's not going to be in work as his brother has just contracted Covid 19.
All these cases are from local schools and all different schools.
As far as I'm aware no one is partially poorly thankfully.
So will I be giving everything up on the first day of "freedom" No will I bollox.
My wife, my self and my eldest Son who is 19 are all fully vaccinated, Partly down to age (51 & 52) and partly down to the fact my Son is at high risk. But I am under no illusion, the vaccination will not stop us getting it, all it does is hopefully reduce the symptoms.

My nephew is self-isolating for the 2nd time in 2 weeks! He went to Newcastle to see his girlfriend and had a ping on the NHS app to self-isolate for 10 days as he had checked in somewhere and someone has since tested positive, this ran out on Friday 25th. He went back over that weekend to help his girlfriend move and got pinged again on the 29th!
He took a LFT test everyday during the 1st and was negative each time, again this time daily test all negative.

I can remember a few years ago going to London for the weekend, on the Saturday we used the tube numerous times during the day. We saw people, mainly Chinese wearing masks and commenting to my relative how odd it is to see someone wearing a mask. That night in our hotel I was blowing my nose and was quite shocked at the black gunk I was blowing out, well we now know who was right!

Just observing around town this past week it seems fairly obvious that we are to all intents and purposes already unrestricted.
I will continue hand sanitising and wiping trolleys as in the past precovid I have often had to complain to Tescos about the state of their trolleys, particularly the handles. Absolutely filty!.Come the Autumn I will also probably go back to mask wearing, even though I hate the bally things and even though I will maybe have had a flu jab by then.
If the flu and extra covid jabs come to pass I will have had 6 jabs in a year.... more than in the rest of my life!

You are right, hospitalisations are, thankfully lower than cases at the moment- although it's not so much I neglected to say it, more that it wasn't my point - or the point of the person who produced the graph. However hospitalisations are rising and as transmission increases so does the risk of new variants which could be vaccine resistant.
Better to be safe than sorry surely?

I never thought I'd say this, but.. I agree with you.
Orwell said "If there is hope, it lies in the proles." Whilst champagne socialists see diversity idealised at university, the common folk experience it first hand in their neighbour hoods.
