Yet we were lied to repeatedly that migrants didn't drive down wages.

Thankfully the British electorate wasn't taken in by the friends of the Big Companies content to ship workers around the EU to drive down British Workers wages.

The EU is not a friend to the workers.

I have yet to hear of a single benefit of Brexit apart from the fish who are happier.
Lol - what happened to Boris's pie-in-the-sky promise of £350,000,000 extra every week for the NHS after Brexit? I'll bet many NHS staff voted to leave the EU based on that promise alone - what a massive con Brexit has turned out to be!

Apart from guaranteeing protection for part-time and temporary workers, right for working parents, 28 days of paid holidays, health and safety standards, trade union rights, gender equality at work.

Not to mention the freedom of people to go and work in different countries. Then there was the free trade that helped businesses here. The CAP that supported farming (and therefore employed farm workers). The millions of Euros ploughed into clean energy projects providing employment.

And the millions poured into the country via EU grants providing building work. Funding projects in member states to support development of poorer regions, stimulate investment in new technologies, preserve the natural environment and support employment-creating initiatives.

Of course part of the WA in May’s agreement guaranteed no backsliding on rights. But then in Johnson’s agreement, that was removed from the legally binding text and shunted into the aspirational and entirely meaningless 'political declaration'.

But on the bright side, our lorry drivers can now work longer hours and take fewer breaks than that pesky EU allowed, so its all worth it.

    Or,

Left wing supporters of the European Union (EU) predict disaster if Britain votes to Leave. They say workers’ lives would get harder and racism would rise. But what would really happen?

Wouldn’t we lose our employment rights?
Union leaders sometimes claim that the EU is the only thing standing between unscrupulous bosses and workers’ rights.

TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady claimed, “It’s the EU that guarantees workers paid holidays, parental leave and equal treatment of part-timers.”

In reality, it was the unions that O’Grady leads that won those rights.

and five more myths about the EU,

straight from the right wing rag the Socialist Worker.

I bet you don't want me to point out the myths about EU funding

Lorry drivers working longer hours and less breaks?

    Racism isn't on the rise?

Do you live in a cave?

    Brexit isn't even 'done' yet.

You really should make the effort to educate yourself about what is going on in this country, beyond the sunlit uplands of the Mail / Express. Take a read of 'Britannia Unchained', soak up a little insight into the minds of the Cabinet. Wholesale deregulation and elimination of intrusive protections of workers and the environment, more tolerance for bankrupt companies, and less government support for the ill, the old, and the unemployed is the aim. They've actually written it like a manifesto. A manifesto written by 5 year olds.

When it comes to workers’ rights the EU sets minimums, not targets. Its aim is to establish a continent-wide baseline for standards that member states can either meet or exceed.

I imagine the SWP (plus that particular article which you link to repeatedly) or any hard left publication isn't wildly in favour of the EU. It's an economic union first and foremost, not a Communist Party sewing circle. When you repeatedly link to that article, what exactly do you think the reaction should be? Oh, they are left wing, so they must be correct? I think I've said this even more times than you've linked to that article, Brexit is not a left wing vs right wing issue.

What an intensely narrow view you must have, to think that anything vaguely 'left' must be agreed and adhered to. Left or right, we don't all slavishly follow a single ethos the way you slavishly hang onto every word of your clown masquerading as a politician. Disagreement, criticism, scrutiny is a sign of an intelligent society. Being obsequiously servile, doffing your cap and cooing lovingly at every utterance of a morally bankrupt liar is a sign of a pragmatic vacuum.

Unless you're a billionaire who is drooling at the thought of a deregulated England (as that's all that will be left), then you will see no benefit of Brexit. No ordinary people will. But if your idea of sunlit uplands is the fresh produce aisle empty but that perceived sovereignty aisle just full to the brim, you keep on believing in your Brexit unicorns and rainbows.

You're entitled to both your opinion and your dreams.

I'm late to this discussion, but I have not recently heard such a load of negative rubbish.

Can you provide an example where wages are rising far faster than 2/3%?
    Thanks,

    Thanks,
Where have you been hiding the last month, the current debate is about not paying the full pension increase next year because the figure is likely to be the wage increase which is expected to be 5.5%. Companies are short of staff, wagon drivers can name their price, pack houses are paying upto £12 ph.

This is not the discussion on this thread Alikado, there is no previous mention of pensions here. The UK economy is bouncing up well and huge investment is happening, maybe you need to widen your reading.

Market economics drive supply and demand, so if there is a shortage of drivers, then failure to stock shelves will cost the big companies and they will offer better money for transport workers. This is a good thing. There are apparently plenty of HGV qualified drivers who are holding out for respectable remuneration.

The wider media is trying to paint a picture of massive shelf shortages, which is simply untrue.

Exactly. It is pure bull. And the authors are in government.

    Worrying. Not to say racist.
