We need to remember that the people getting in these boats are breaking no law in France.
What on earth is the incentive for France to help? They already have many more immigrants to cope with than we do.

It seems you are right, AS SOON as you arrive IF you believe it will be unsafe to return home at the border you enter you must declare yourself even Boris was under the same thinking when his speech said you enter illegally you will be treated as an illegal immigrant and although I still think the rules changed a while ago to where you had to ask for leave to enter in your own country I now think this might apply to more safe countries regarding work, study or marriage visas or suchlike and not war zones where there may not be a British embassy, but there’s one in France!!.
Legal immigration is ok by me I have said that before but I would like to see those who appear and try to trick the system then disappear into Uk caught imprisoned and deported solely on safety grounds. The odd thing is you won’t legally get near our borders without thd correct paperwork like a passport and including leave to enter .

If say an Afghani's circumstances give him the right to asylum, why hasn't he claimed it at his local British Consulate in Kabul - or perhaps he has and been refused? This would have saved a long and perilous journey and the expense of paying people-smugglers. He could simply have gone to an operational airport and bought a flight ticket!

Again you are right but it also says your application is more likely to be denied the longer you wait . I have some but limited faith that Uk border control will be able to work out the ones playing it on and loosing their passports saying they from where they are not. It’s the releasing them into the community and trusting them to return part that bothers me, it’s not like they will come back if they know they will be deported or removed, I only feel sorry for the children amongst them .

Appeals are complicated by many things unrelated to whether
an adult person has just claim on asylum grounds.

For e.g the right to join a family member in the UK.
Ill health and injury as a result of travel.
On going chronic illness.

I have 100% no faith in UK Border Control until it is properly funded and adequately manned, until applications are processed they should be detained in secure accommodation, if the application fails they should be returned promptly. endless appeals should not be allowed the only appeal should be on the decision on the original application no new changes or circumstances should be later taken into account. The problem with saying that waiting to apply may lead to the application being denied is they already say that you should apply when you feel it becomes too dangerous to return home.

Appeals should not be complicated or drawn out, they should only be permitted on the original application with no other grounds being entered later. It is a tactic used by shyster lawyers to draw out the proceedings by continually appealing on different grounds, the applicants are being let down by them.

There will probably be very many 'useful' people on the boats, they are not 'penniless migrants looking to claim benefits' as the gammon press would have us believe as they obviously have money (or had until they fell into the smugglers clutches) so in their country of origin they would have had businesses or good well paid jobs which leads the normal thinking people to realise they would be an asset not a burden.

They need to get the so-called charity groups off their backs who keep portraying them as victims, they aren't, they are resourceful economic migrants who have achieved a hell of a lot to get here at great risk.

Weeding out the ones we don't want leaves a significant resource for a country with skilled Labour shortages.
