It doesn’t matter what we do (except feel good and take a pat on the back) if the others don’t change their ways.
We were the ones who led the world into this mess, via our industrial revolution. So imo we have a degree of responsibility, to lead the world out of it.
Since the atmosphere is all connected, one gas heater less in the UK, has precisely the same beneficial effect as one gas heater less in China - or anywhere......Just because someone lives in a small country, it doesn't give them some sort of divine right to continue chucking out tons of CO2 with impunity.

I’ll say it again, “it doesn’t matter what we do, if the others don’t change their ways”.

‘ Despite all the promises to take action, the world is still on course to heat up to dangerous levels.
That's the latest blunt assessment of the United Nations.
Its experts have studied the climate plans of more than 100 countries and concluded that we're heading in the wrong direction.
Scientists recently confirmed that to avoid the worst impacts of hotter conditions, global carbon emissions needed to be cut by 45% by 2030.
But this new analysis shows that those emissions are set to rise by 16% during this period.
That could eventually lead to a temperature rise of 2.7C (4.9F) above pre-industrial times - far above the limits set by the international community.‘
Climate change: UN warning over nations' climate plans https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-58600723
But net emissions alone are not enough to blame China for climate change. "If you look at only one number, you're only getting one side of the story," says Shyla Raghav, vice president of climate change at Conservation International, an environmental organization headquartered in the United States.
CO2 emissions per capita paint a different picture
To get more insight, it's worth looking at carbon dioxide emissions per capita. When combining 2019 data from the Global Carbon Project and Our World in Data, numerous states from the Caribbean and the Persian Gulf top the list. In 14th place is the US, with just over 16 tons of CO2 per capita. China emits less than half of that per capita, tallying 7.1 tons, putting the country in 48th place.

Therefore the existing radiators wouldn’t get hot enough to heat the room, you would need to change all of your rads to much larger ones, possibly having to re- pipe the whole system.
ASHP’s work better with Underfloor Heating, not always easy, sometimes impossible to retrofit to existing properties and can be very expensive.
Homes would need to be very well insulated, not easy in some houses, particularly listed or older Victorian homes.
ASHP’s become less efficient at lower external temperatures, resulting in huge bills and cold homes.
So all in all, far from ideal, big initial cost, probably larger bills particularly in very cold weather, also you would need another source (electric) for your hot water as the temperature produced isn’t enough to heat the cylinder to the required temperature.
Ta for that. I wasn't sure how they worked.

Air to air pumps have been used for decades here, for both heating and cooling. We have forced air heating/cooling so the ducting is already in our houses. It's good for cooling, but not so good for heating because our Winter temps are sometimes very low.
I know a couple of people with air to water pumps and underfloor heating. Their houses are bloody cold in Winter. If it wasn't so rude I'd keep my coat on!

The vast majority of people have completed full insulation of their properties over the past 20 years or so, much of it thanks to the energy companies who picked up the tab for the work.
As for the protestors, they don't speak for me and, I suspect, 95 per cent of the rest of the population. Their methods are completely outrageous and, what's more, cause more harm than good with regard to their so-called campaign.

"I won't take my coat off I'm not stopping."
Why not suggest a Ken Platt evening so you can all keep your coats on.

Who mentioned giving up, I’ll say it for a third time, “ it doesn’t matter what we do, if the others don’t change their ways”
This isn’t in our (UK) hands alone, yes we can “do our bit” and encourage others, but unless the major polluters also do their bit it’s a bit like trying to save the Titanic with a leaking bucket.

Very unfortunately you are right about the planet we can though make some immediate changes to improve UK air quality and protect the Co2 absorbers.
Ban wood fired stoves, the worst polluter and destroyers of forests.
They are also extroadinarily bad for childrens health.
Surely anyone with a green bone in their body would agree.

This quiet spell exposes the problems with wind hopefully the latest round of wave power generators will be more successful.
Heading into winter with less daylight and lower wind creates a lot of problems.
It does though make a case for very expensive nuclear.

That's right. Increasing gas price has finally tipped the scales, making further production at those plants uneconomic and rendering their business model unviable.
Imo, a low-cost Govt loan or one-off grant, to convert both plants to burn a renewable fuel e.g. biomass is worth considering. Provided it was responsibly sourced, this would have the added advantage of being carbon neutral, an important factor in these #climate emergency times.
