Preston and District Vintage Car Club, one of the most active and progressive in the country, is looking forward to featuring at the event at Victoria Park on Sunday, 10th October. Some of its vehicles date back nearly a century, to the 1920s and 1930s.

Around 250 classic cars covering three centuries of motoring have already signed up to take part at Southport Classic and Speed.

What makes the Preston and District Vintage Car Club’s display of 15 cars so different is that the club is committed to encouraging the younger generation to participate in and appreciate the pleasure that can be derived from vintage motoring.

Club member Tom Taylor said:
“It’s vital that the spirit of real motoring is kept alive and we have to encourage youngsters to become involved.

“Our club has over 200 members and several are teenagers and very capable drivers of vintage cars in competition. Miss Dorothy Levitt was just 21 years young when she won her class driving a Gladiator in the 1903 Speed Trials on the promenade in Southport.

“We invite anyone who would like to learn more to come to our stand and talk to us. Maybe we can find another Dorothy Levitt!"
The Preston and District Vintage Car Club was formed in 1959. The club organises rallies, sporting trials, club runs and social events throughout the year.

Cars in their display include a 1926 Bullnose Morris, a 1930 Model “A” Ford, a 1936 Riley Monaco and a Morris 12/4.

The first ever Southport Classic and Speed, presented by Cataclean and supported by Porsche Preston, takes place at Victoria Park in Southport between 10am and 5pm on Sunday, 10th October, 2021. Admission is free, with around 250 Veteran, Vintage, Classic and Modern cars on display.

It will be followed by a spectacular grand parade of classic cars through Southport starting at 5.30pm.

Added attractions will include marque and car club displays, local crafts, food and drink stalls, a shopping village, and live broadcasts from the Sandgrounder Radio bus.

The stunning showcase is being organised by Aintree Circuit Club, which already runs the very successful Ormskirk Motorfest in Lancashire.

Organisers are appealing for marshals - if you are interested, please register online at: Marshals’ Registration | Ormskirk MotorFest

The event is supported by Sefton Council, Southport BID and Victoria Park Events.
The main entrance to the show at Victoria Park in Southport is just across the road from the Esplanade / Eco Centre car park, which charges £5 per vehicle. The car park is open 10am–7pm.
