    What has made life better

For those of us of a certain age (born around the 1950's or 60's), lifestyles have changed significantly over the last sixty or seventy years.
Apart from big technical stuff - phones, flat screens, microwaves etc, what little things have made your life easier?
For me, it was the introduction of soft loo rolls and tea bags

Big freezers. When I was a kid the only place for frozen food was a small shelf, with a little door on, at the top of the fridge. Now I have 3 freezers. Makes life easier to batch cook.

And supermarket order deliveries. Not having to lug 10 bags of shopping around is great. Especially because I get several of my elderly neighbour's shopping in for them.

You’re lucky when I was a kid nobody or very few had fridges, freezers just didn’t exist domestically, ( a certain poster won’t like this) the biggest change came as cars became more affordable to ordinary working people.

    In no particular order:

Automatic washing machines - no more drudgery in the wash-house.

    Solar panels - free power.

    Electric vehicles - amazing.

Free love/the pill - for obvious reasons.

Membership of the EU - enabled us all to work/live in Europe.

Casual clothing becoming the norm - hated wearing suit, tie, etc.

Better road signage - helpful on a long trip.

Conversion of some of Beeching's cut railroutes to cycleways - safer cycling.

Indoor bogs - no more freezing your nuts off in Winter.

More money about, compared to '50's - better standard of living.

Our first fridge was bought second-hand around 1960 and was Gas powered ! It was silver, stood on four legs, and had to be located in the outhouse due to a gas supply 'tap and spigot' being in place there. Like Toodles says, there was only a tiny box or shelf for frozen stuff, and the main compartment was not much bigger, but it kept butter and milk fresh, so was a god-send in the summer.

We had a gas powered fridge around 1971/73. Left by the previous owners. It was under the stairs as that was the only place it could connect to the gas pipes. I don't know how it worked, but I was never quite comfortable with the idea. And you couldn't just switch the hinges, so you'd go under the stairs to get in it.

We didn't have it long, as we moved house a lot back then. Just left it for the next people. Thinking about it now, I bet it was there years before we moved in.

    Medicine.

Things that flattened us are now blips.

We have even managed to get a pretty effective vaccine in our arms quickly.

Still a lot to do though but without your health most things become irrelevant.

You can still get gas-powered fridges often in caravans.

Yes, that is about it for me too. Oh, and the fact that you do not have to wear a suit to work any more - hell, you can get away with the Liverpool uniform if you want to.

Born 1955 we had bugger all that we have now, no car, no holidays except a coach day trip, but happier then. Had more real friends then than now. Plenty of virtual friends now.
