Risk assessment? Sefton Council? Ask a silly question, you should know better than that!

They make things safer for everyone.

Safer for the cyclist - they have their own demarked area, no danger from opening car doors, no danger of cars getting too close.

Safer for the the driver, no cyclists in the carriageway, no cars doors opening, no pedestrians walking out from behind parked cars.

Safer for pedestrians , a more open view of the road and traffic.

So much more of an open view of the road that she still tripped over it and broke her nose in two places!

If they have done a risk assessment it wasn’t a very good one as these lumps of concrete should have been painted yellow, probably with black stripes, you don’t always see what you don’t expect to be there camouflaged to match the road whatever age you are .. the way you are going on it sounds like you are a solicitor for the council. Just because she is 86 there are unfounded suggestions that she is half blind, infirm, needs carers and shouldn’t be allowed out alone and half puddled .. all this is unfounded .. what is fact is it’s a hazard an obvious trip hazard that’s caused this lady great distress they are the wrong colour, in the wrong place and for reasons that are unwanted by the vast majority not to mention expensive and senseless and now dangerous and at this point forward can only cause more accidents than they are worth.
Your point is not proven, it’s proven incorrect, nonesense and a bit heartless .

May as well be - they're solid rubber and very hard.

It's not about the material it's made of, it's the fact they're way too big, and are causing a hazard and not painted to make them stand out.

and don't forget the nasty vertical poles which would seriously injure any motorcyclist sliding into them. I drove down Hogton Street this afternoon and the only use of the cycle lane was a motorist who decided it was a good parking spot. There was a cyclist (adult) but he was riding on the pavement. One hand on the handlebars and one hand holding the coffee he was drinking.

Too big? If they were smaller they'd be harder to see.

Do you work for Sefton ?

You seem, like Sefton, to ignore Motor Cyclists when considering road safety

    B) If peoples driving is so bad, that they are likely to bash into static road furniture, what chance does a vulnerable cyclist have of surviving on-road? It's better to have a bollard or a protective kerb bashed than a cyclist!

And this IDIOT has still not expressed ANY sympathy toward the lady's predicament.

She's 86 - for God's sake man, she's not likely to using a sodding iPhone

Me Me Me Cyclist first and sod the rest of you.

As for the PNP or Donkey 22.................words fail me with their comments.

Hope the lady concerned has no long term effects from this incident.

    Typical ignorance.
The Highway Code applies to pedestrians too.

Why do you think kids are taught the green cross code? You're supposed to remember it once you've left school as well.
