Unlike you, I and most people commenting on such subjects in this forum rarely interfere in plans or ideas for other districts of the town - those who live there generally know best about what is or is not required.

Somewhat different from you, who doesn't even live in the town but several miles away. It's really none of your business or concern.
In fact, Stuart, the PNP has mentioned before (as he's volunteered later on this thread) that he moved from 'on the moss' to a PR9 address. He mentioned that a while ago, perhaps last year, in response to a poster on a thread on the news forum who'd been making a very similar point to the one you've put. Furthermore, as best as I recall, the PNP hinted that he'd moved very close to Southport town centre itself.

True, except that I'm not that close to the town centre.

Oh, you've delighted the PNP with that!

He's been called an 'a*s' on this forum a great many times but he's been waiting all his life to be called 'like a donkey'!

How can we have a policy based on Nimby surveys?

Personally, I would like my road and the routes I go on closed except for me and people I give permission to.

Asking individual roads/areas just transfers things they don't want to their neighbors.

The policy should be about the benefit for everyone including visitors who our town relies on for so much of its income/jobs.

Its salami-slicing democracy to its death.

Also, people (visitors) who come into town shouldn't be taking their cars down the residential streets in question. They should follow the signage and keep to the main routes in/out of town.

    B) Everyones journey is equally important. The little kid on his hand-me-down bike, has every bit as much right to get about safely, as the bigshot in his shiny new Rolls. For too long, the money has all been spent on improving roads for the motorist. So much so, he has come to believe everything should go his way. Howl as he might about it, a levelling-up process is now underway.

    C) Yes, general traffic should stick to the routes provided. Using residential streets as overspill routes for rat-running is not on. It makes these areas unsafe, increases noise/vibration and raises exhaust pollution levels where people live. If there's so much traffic coming into town, that it has to resort to residential rat-running, I wouldn't worry about there being no footfall.

Sod that for a lark old bean.

Proposal to block off Roads and Streets in Southport to create Liveable Neighbourhood

Quote Originally Posted by roving-eye View Post

The affected area is the Roads and Streets surrounded by Eastbank Street, Scarisbrick New Road, Ash Street, Cemetery Road, Upper Aughton Road, Aughton Road, Lord Street West and Lord Street.
    Table 3 extracted from:
The sustainable mobility paradigm — David Banister,
Transport Studies Unit, Oxford University Centre for the Environment. November 2007

Key elements in promoting the public acceptability of sustainable mobility
Information Education, awareness campaigns, and promotion through media and social pressure are an essential starting point
Explanation of the need for sustainable mobility, emphasising the positive economic, social and health benefits to the individual and businesses
Involvement and communication The process must be inclusive, with clear aims and an understanding of the consequences to those on whom the strategy will impact
Designed to gain support and understanding, so that stakeholders can buy into the proposals Raise levels of consistency between expectations and outcomes
Packaging Push and pull policies measures need to be combined in mutually supporting packages. Policies restricting car use or raising its costs should be accompanied by well-publicised programmes to improve the availability and attractiveness of alternatives to driving alone, including car pooling, public transport, cycling and walking, all financed by dedicated revenues from car pricing measures
Selling the benefits It is necessary to widely publicize the benefits, even if there are costs, inconvenience and sacrifice. Car drivers support funding of alternative modes to reduce congestion on the roads they drive on. Overweight or obese individuals would directly benefit from better walking and cycling conditions. Everyone benefits from cleaner air and safer traffic conditions. More walking, cycling and public transport use would help relieve parking shortages. These are important and direct impacts that all individuals can support
Adopt controversial policies in stages Support needs to be built up in terms of positive outcomes and measurable improvements in the quality of life Politics is about reflecting prevailing preferences and also forming opinions Acceptance of responsibilities and commitment to change through actions is the key to success
Consistency between different measures and policy sectors Some measures (e.g. pricing) that are common to all futures. Such measures need to be implemented now, even though their impacts may not be immediate
Regulations, standards, subsidies and tax incentives should all be used to encourage manufacturers and other transport suppliers to develop and adopt the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly technology possible
The precautionary principle should be followed, particularly on the global warming effects of transport emissions, and actions should be consistent over the longer term
Many of the problems created for the transport system do not emanate from the transport sector, but from other sectors. So a more holistic perspective is needed that integrates decision-making across sectors and widens the public discourse
Adaptability Decisions today should not unnecessarily restrict the scope for future decisions, so that the adaptive behaviour of individuals and agencies can be assessed
There is no prescription or blueprint for the correct procedures to follow. Each situation requires separate analysis and implementation, including flexibility to change policy measures if intentions and outcomes do not match up. Assessment of risk and reversibility are both strong components of sustainable mobility
Adaptability is not an excuse for inaction or weak action. It is an argument for clear decision making, leadership, supported by analysis and monitoring to check on the effectiveness of policy action

I was born and bred in Southport and have lived in my home 50 years so I think it is liveable I might have noticed before now. Why not close off the Formby bypass and all other routes from Bootle to Southport you lot are aliens anyway I'd be happy if you stayed in Bootle.
