Johnson's incompetent leadership helped send Covid victims to early graves
What many of us already suspected, has been confirmed by a damming report compiled by a joint Commons committee. MP’s have described the fiasco as the “worst public health failure ever”.
The key findings include.
It was a “serious early error” not to lockdown sooner.
The decision to abandon testing for COVID in the community early on was a mistake that “cost many lives”.
Failing to prioritise social care and discharging people from hospitals into care homes “led to many thousands of deaths”.
Robust border controls were needed sooner.
There were serious deficiencies in communication within government and between central and local government.
The list goes on. No wonder Johnson wants to delay a full public enquiry for as long as possible.

Comes to something when your own MPs call you an incompetent prick, doesn't it?
The calls that 'nobody could foresee this' are bull. 'Cygnus' showed the government exactly what could happen and what was needed to fight a pandemic. The entire operation was roundly ignored. The destruction of the NHS by successive governments since 2010 has also played a part.
All those thousands and thousands of unnecessary deaths, all those grieving families. Breaks your heart.
I can only hope that all those who think the fat prick in Number 10 is doing a good job join them soon. See how they like it.

Most of us very quickly realised that government’s initial actions/reactions were abysmal, this report merely confirms this, of course Johnson devotees will point to the vaccine roll out as if that excuses previous bad decisions.
Bear in mind the early production of a viable vaccine was down to research and the pharmaceutical companies, certainly putting in early orders was a positive move, but a lot of luck was involved rather than government action.

Having not read the report yet, and going by the article you linked, it also states:-
"Across 150 pages, the report covers a variety of successes and failings."
"biggest peacetime challenge" for a century."
"nature of the pandemic meant it was "impossible to get everything right".
"government would not shy away from any lessons to be learned at the full public inquiry, expected next year"
"Lockdown delay mistake - but scientists to blame too"
"praise the target set by then Health Secretary Matt Hancock to get to 100,000 tests a day by the end of April"
"The development of treatments, such as dexamethasone, for Covid through the UK Recovery Trial was another area where the UK's response was genuinely world-leading"
"And the NHS and government were also credited with the way hospital intensive care capacity was increased to ensure the majority who needed hospital treatment received it."
And I'll say this, if Corbyn was in charge, he'd still be sitting on the fence with his thumb up his ar.e waiting for Diana Abbott to tell him what to do.
You think this government is a farce, Labour would have been a clusterfkcu.....(Hindsight is great )

Whatabout whatabout whatabout Corbyn, Abbott, whatabout.
I'd wager that without Brexit, Corbyn would be in charge now. 2% behind the Tories in the polls. Didn't you have to pay the DUP billions just to stay in?
Now, considering this, and as I said on another thread I'm well aware of Corbyn's failings, do you think he'd have let the NHS go to pot? Do you think he'd have spent billions on cronies and friends who work down the pub and have no clue about PPE or medical supplies? Do you think he'd have allowed super-spreader events like horse racing to go ahead? Do you think he'd have missed COBRA meetings while the world entered a global pandemic? Hid in a fridge? Lied through his teeth?
There's no 'hindsight' because it never happened. But he came very very close. Then in 2019 more people voted for pro-remain parties than Brexit parties. Let's face it, this system of elections hasn't delivered what the public want since Baldwin won in 1935.
You think with actual hindsight, you'd have Johnson as leader of the Tory party? Seriously?

The report blames the scientists just as much.
It's all very easy for people to have the wonderful gift of hindsight and state that they would have done this or done that, rather than what was done. Kier Starmer, apart from the above contributors, is just one of them.
As for Jeremy Hunt believing the government should have done more to prepare for a possible pandemic, let's not forget he was the Health Secretary from 2012 to 2018.

Again, not a fan, but unless Starmer was privy to COBRA meetings, SAGE meetings, how is he supposed to do anything other than react to what the government says or does after the fact?
Crystal ball?
'Captain Hindsight' is just another of the repeat phrases he churns out that means nothing. Unless you're an idiot that hangs on Johnson's every word, it's meaningless.
I agree that Hunt shouldn't apportion blame when he had the Cygnus results and largely did nothing.

Apparently the Opposition was kept informed throughout as is the case with such vital matters and agreed with the majority of the decisions.

The minutes of Sage meeting were published but not Cobra, I remember complaints at the time that the Opposition Parties should be included to create a Government of National Unity but they were excluded.

While all of you like minded people dutifully stayed at home, pottering about, getting your daily dosage of brainwashing, imagining everyone was doing the same thing, I can now reveal that most of the local people were not.
Country Parks and walks, the sand dunes etc.,were very busy places. The pine forest was like just after a plane has landed at Heathrow - it was packed. I had not arranged anything - but met up with loads of my mates and their families down there.
The evenings were like the old times, everyone out for an evening walk, all very friendly, laughing and joking - not a mention about the God Box - so refreshing!
You would not have known - you were under lock down.
A large number of people donned masks as they entered shops because they did not want confrontation, but they ripped them straight off when they came out.
Most people knew it was not right, they knew something was wrong with the whole issue - especially when there was a blanket ban on anyone discussing it. If there were too many doubters - no-one would have taken up the vaccine, which would never do as so much had been invested in this virus for which 99% of the population were immune. How on earth did mankind thoughout history, manage to survive serious contagions? Did people contact their employers when they had influenza and say they would not be in for six months? Have you not fallen in yet that we are in a recession - that it was all the economy drivers that were kept open during the pandemic, services were shut down to save expense, and a mass vaccine drive was about boosting the economy.
Since when have you know any government to be concerned about Joe Blogg's health? They were not bothered about millions of people who could not get medical treatment, nor those hundreds who became suicidal, nor those they had managed to terrify out of their wits. If you are going to be concerned about people's health, you would be concerned about everyone's health.
The economy has been struggling since 1998, there were small areas of growth followed by another drop through to 2014, since when the economy has been really struggling,GDP has fallen drastically. This was the same for France, Turkey, Brazil, Australia, Canada and all the other countries included in the pandemic issue. The USA was the same - but received injections of cash from the federal reserve, while China's economy, India's economy and Macau's economy are very healthy.

And it's thanks to people like said that this fiasco continues. Though they have obviously forgotten that daily exercise outdoors was allowed during the lockdown, albeit not with other households.

Perhaps the Fantasyland Police should go round to interview about the regulations being broken, I believe some have been fined several thousands.
Oh, I forgot the virus doesn't exist in his / her / it's world!
