Just awful.
I apologise, I knew nothing about David Amess. May He Rest In Peace.
I do offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends A very popular man who did much in his constituency, he will be seriously missed.

You were not asked a question. It was suggested, quite rightly, that you kept up with the original thread's sad news.

I met Sir David many years ago at a conference. He was singing the praises of Southend: the longest pier in Britain, classical Victorian and Georgian architecture, famous seaside resort.
I later remarked to him that I would have done the same for the town of my birth: Southport; with 2nd longest pier in the UK, classical Victorian and Georgian architecture, famous seaside resort...indeed, almost the same name! He chuckled and said that, though I may disagree with him, my heart was in the right place.
R.I.P.
