The Queen.
Yet another setback for HM, having to miss the remembrance parade in London Sunday morning . Reported in the press that we will see less and less of HM due to a continuing health problems . Shame because she has served the country for 70 years .

I'm not a monarchist, but I respect and like the Queen. As monarchs go, I doubt that you would find another one who has performed their duties with as much class and devotion as Elizabeth II. Monarchy is an outmoded concept, but if you have to have one, you couldn't do better.
I find it sad that after an otherwise blemish free reign, she's being called a 'nonce protector'. Do you have children? I think you'll find that mothers are fiercely protective of their children. Even when they are adults, they are still babies to us.
What did you expect her to do? Put him in chains and ship him across the Atlantic? I don't doubt for one minute that she lectured him on what was the right thing to do. He's a grown man, a man without honour. What makes you think that anything she could say would alter that? She deserves better.

But her actions now say a lot, loyalty is one thing but now she is putting the whole monarchy at risk.

Surely as Monarch, the fount of Justice, she shouldn't interfere one way or the other.
If you have evidence of her "protecting a nonce" then share it.
Unless and until then perhaps it's better to think before posting vacuous allegations against her.
Most of us appreciate her unblemished record and you can be sure it's the person most people respect not the position.

What actions do you think she should take? He's no longer allowed to perform public duties and doesn't receive money from the sovereign grant. I'm at a loss as to what else people expect her to do.
It is Andrew who has brought disgrace on himself. If the monarchy is damaged, it's by extension, and the blame lies solely with Andrew, not his mother. Is she expected to be judge and jury, and condemn her son without due process? Leave that to the courts of law. In the meantime, don't expect a mother to throw her son under the bus for crimes he's not yet been found guilty of.

The Monarchy is different to other families it is more like a business which would at the slightest whiff of scandal would distance itself from it to protect itself or buy off the other party, it has done neither. Her uncle had to go into exile just for wanting to marry a divorcee, what next, will the Prince Charles / Michael Fawcett start to unravel?

I still await proof of how she is "protecting a nonce" how?
what is she doing phoning up Boris ?
The Home Secretary?
The American Ambassador?
Andrew has had the fortune of being pursued by let's say a woman with history which may work to his favour,
but Ghislaine could soon throw a very large spanner in the works for those who did wrong and those who enabled it.
She has already been trying to colour public opinion with her family character references and in her skin saving desperation may well throw a few names around, we shall see.
The Queen must wish it all away she knows she hasn't long and surely would have disposed of this years ago if she was, could and wanted to "protect a nonce"

Nicholas Witchell should be getting giddy right now. He'll be on TV 24/7 soon.
There's a lot I could say about her and her family, but as she's obviously at the end stages of her life, I won't. As I've said over and over, I'm not a royalist by a long, long way. But respect where it's due, she's done her duty - as she sees it.
They should let her put her feet up and leave her alone.

She's protecting him by underwriting his legal bills, she's protected him by allowing him to hide away at Balmoral, she's not come out and stated that if he's guilty etc - total silence she can't brush it under the carpet and hope it will go away.
The woman with a history ? A history of being Trafficked around the World for the rich and powerful nonces.

How can the monarchy distance itself from the scandal other than Seivad has already pointed out, so you think the monarchy should pay off the other party, so no justice then!
With regards to Edward, that bears not relation what so ever, one was constitutional rules at the time not a legal case pending in a court of law.

so, for arguments' sake your son or daughter is accused of a crime they vehemently deny you'd refuse to help with legal costs if you are in a position to do so, you'd publicly speak out against them before their trial, before they are proven guilty or innocent?
She hasn't brushed anything under the carpet, she has done as any mother would and stay silent, privately supporting her son in any way she can as any mother would.

Oops, I pressed 'like' by mistake. I meant to press 'reply'. Must file my nails!
Despite being known as 'the firm', the monarchy is a family that, when it comes to love and loyalty to their own brood, is no different to your family and mine. An offer to an American woman, which would most definitely come to light in the US, is an admission of guilt. And the British public would be all over them like white on rice, and not in a good way. He should have his day in court to answer to the charges. I think that Andrew is guilty, but I've not heard all of the evidence, so who am I to make an informed judgement? I would be thrown out at the jury selection, for good reason
As for distancing themselves from him. As I've said before, why on earth would they do that before he's been found guilty. I sure as hell wouldn't desert my child at this stage in the game, and I doubt that most of us would.
As for Edward's abdication. It's not 1936 and the monarchy has moved on from this antedeluvian way of thinking. You might have noticed that Charles and Camilla are both divorcees. As is Princess Anne.
