Aye, and standing around like Browns cows for an hour to watch the cars in the cold
certainly isn't ideal....Provision by the organisers of several lovely hot glowing braziers
spaced along the Prom, would have been a nice touch.

I was in town today and I saw all the people waiting in the cold. I wondered where the parade was myself although I had not gone to watch it specifically.
Well done to all those who turned out to take part in the parade, you all did well. But the crowd waiting did seem to be a bit disappointed with the lack of musical floats and where was Santa?
The idea is great - but perhaps next year more people will get involved and organise some really Christmas type celebrations and while they are at it - how about bringing back the Carnival floats?

I agree. I don't see what was festive about the load of undecorated cars and trucks constantly blasting their horns. Credit to the few trucks and floats that had made an effort to actually be festive. Santa cried off apparently.

The Southport Charity Carnival was a fund raising event for local charities that originally started as a one-off in 1979 and which ultimately continued for 21 years until the principle organiser, Mrs Wyn Thorn, found it too much for her age and retired. It was supposed to be continued by The Champion newspaper, but that only lasted a couple of years in its recognised format before it stopped completely. It would take a new group of volunteers or an organisation to start up a similar parade. Wyn Thorn sadly passed away in 2018, but the memories of the Carnival remain until this day.

Wonder what the folks on the Prom were waiting for then ?
I drove around Pontins roundabout approx. 5.00pm and noticed the lit up wagon outside Pontins (the starting point of the parade at 4.00pm) and assumed the parade hadn't taken place, as I got onto the prom in town, lots of folk waiting at the side of the road opposite the Royal Clifton.
I guess after the parade the wagon returned to Pontins, but what were the folks on the prom waiting for ?

The parade reached the prom between 5:30-6pm
