Described as the Biggest Vehicle Christmas Light Parade in the North West and all in a good cause with toy donations for children but has it lost its Christmas spirit?
Sent in from a member of Qlocal
We waited excitedly with our 4 year old, on Lulworth Rd for over 45 mins, like many others.
We (perhaps naively) assumed that it would be full of floats or with Santa involved somewhere - and many children were watching in the cold with similar expectations.
When it finally appeared, it was only the fronts of lorries and vans - with a few lights on, vintage cars with lights on, but mostly vehicles with fairy lights all honking their horns.
“Not really very xmassy!” said the elderly couple next to me
There was one float with people on which had made a big effort but it went past so fast that we couldn’t see it properly or hear it!
“I do realise it’s a charity event but it was advertised as a ‘Christmas’ parade - Southport’s Biggest. My son was left disappointed.” said a lady on the bench on my left.
“my partner liked it more than me - but then again he is “into” cars !” another woman commented.
What are everyone else’s thoughts on it ?
Here are a couple of videos from the parade:

Yes, a few more floats at the very least would have made it more of an attraction - you would have expected at least one Santa float anyway. Many of those who did take part in it, had taken a lot of trouble to dress their vehicles imaginatively, and they did turn out.
A lack of Marshalls to deal with the traffic was very obvious as the trailing vehicles had to take a short cut and make a dash to catch up to the main body of the parade.
As always, it is the big trucks who are the Kings of the Road and they did look impressive but pulling a well dressed Christmas float would have made them even more impressive.
Is it that they have to be far more cautious in case they offend someone's sensibilities by promoting Christmas at all?

Who the hell cares it was a free spectacle, don't like it, go home.

Not much choice if you live on the route but to listen to car horns blasting non stop for half an hour

Bit late for that mate, when you've stood shivering in the cold for an hour or more waiting with young kids to see Santa, only to find the towns Christmas 'Parade' more resembled a Christmas Convoy! I'm sure some did 'go home' feeling disillusioned.
