My bet is that Smiths will be a casualty in 2022. They seem to have no idea of what they are there for and just fill their shop with any old thing.

kinell yer striker biker .you know the number of bikers that wheel their steeds into my shop .not a care for the skid marks on the carpet for the wrong reasons,the depart sweaty odours to leave the door open an mishy not wishing for a freindly crotch sniff.

Indeed.
I always wonder who decided to put it at the back upstairs, given that much of the clientele is elderly.
Smiths and Boots both are stores who are being undercut on their volume items and outsold on their specialist stuff by niche stores.
Historically I imagine Smiths did Ok from people coming in to buy a newspaper and then buying something else, but as newspaper sales decline that isn't a winning plan.

Both stores are 'browsing' stores, books and stationery are available elsewhere cheaper, similarly cosmetics etc they are all impulse buys. The internet has killed shopping in person, the only reason to buy in person is if you need to try it on even then I often order online to avoid an article that has been pawed by all and sundry.

Cyclists are fully aware that they are the "untouchables". They are allowed to break any law they choose and they know that authority will always support their right to what they want, how and where they choose. How our society ever came to this, I will never know but it is just one crazy aspect of life today that we have to put up with. I used to fight against lifes injustices but have now realised that all we can do is to resign ourselves to the way the country has evolved.

I used to fight against life's injustices but have now realised that all we can do is to resign ourselves to the way the country has evolved.

Of course, if everyone in society was honest, this thread wouldn't be here. The cyclist could have left that bike outside, knowing it would still be there later. Sad fact is, unless you lock a bike (or a car) it's liable to disappear.

'Untouchables'..Well maybe, though a bike does give the user a wonderful sense of freedom. You can go almost anywhere on one - imo it comes close to possessing a magical flying broomstick!
