The Flawed Honours System
For many years the so called Honours system has been flawed and really not fit for purpose, but now it has now sunk to a whole new level by giving war criminal Tony Blair a Knighthood. It’s an insult to any decent person who has ever been given an award. By rights, Blair should have been put before a war crimes tribunal at The Hague, or better still should have hanged alongside Saddam Hussain and George Bush Jnr.

Could you say why you think honouring a person who has served this country with honour regardless of creed , political views, or colour should not be honoured. I'm no admirer of Blair, but he did serve this country . And pray tell how you have served our country.

Yes, badly. I wonder if the families of all the innocent people Blair unlawfully killed feel about a war criminal being honoured, unfavourably I would guess.
As for me serving our Country, no I haven’t done anything special, worked hard and paid my taxes for the best part of sixty years, just like millions of other people.

Tony Blair should not be honoured, he sent this country to war and so many of our armed forces lost their lives because of him. Like what had been said he is a war criminal like Bush Jnr.

Whether it's right or wrong to Knight Sir Tony, this "honour" was bestowed up him directly from HM QUeen, nothing to do with who the government think should get them.
As a former prime minister it's the natural progression to get this honour, as will Brown, Cameron and May recieve it in due course.
Sir John Major recieved it.
Not defending it, just saying that's what happens.

I don't think Blair, or any other politician for that matter, should be awarded an honour for simply doing the job they were elected to do (and getting reasonably well paid for it).
Honours should be awarded to those who go above and beyond the normal expectations in life. Those who risk their own lives to save others, or who do exceptional charity work for example. These are the people we should be honouring.

When you look at some of the people in the New Year Honours list you have to wonder “WHY”.
I was disappointed that Michael Cullen (Speedo Mick) wasn’t honoured in some way following his charity walks and fund raising.
He’s had a tough upbringing and has suffered from mental health issues and has been homeless but has spent the last few Yeats raising money for others.
His last walk came to an end last week after completing 2,500 miles through some appalling weather in just his swimming trunks.
Maybe next year Mick.

The Queen doesn't decide who receives an honour. She acts on the advice of her ministers, who present her with a list of nominees each year for approval; anyone can nominate someone they feel is worthy of an honour.
A monarch's power to decide disappeared in the 18th and 19th Centuries, as government by a cabinet of ministers, headed by a prime minister, was developed.

The Honour bestowed on him is awarded at the Queens sole discretion, the Government doesn't have a say.

The pity is that Bush Snr and Major could have finished the job in the first Gulf War but chose to leave Sadaam Hussein in power, it was well documented that he had used Chemical weapons against his own people of different Muslim sects and the Kurds. Yes Blair was Prime Minister and led us into the second war but I suspect the USA after 9/11 browbeat him into another war to oust Hussein on the pretence of his previous use of Chemical Weapons.
God help us when Russia and China decide they want to rule the World and Boris and Biden are put on the spot.

The problem with Russia and China is, they really have got weapons of mass destruction and Russia is on the Ukraine border ready now in position to invade as they did in 2014.
While Biden is not giving the reassurances Putin has asked for and Putin has not removed his troops as Biden has asked and the UK has signed up for supporting Ukraine financially so if Ukraine joins NATO soon Russia will have lost any chance to take Ukraine. If they don’t take Ukraine now before they get the UK funding promised and join NATO they will lose it forever. I wonder how this will play out

On the Honours I am glad to see Jason and Laura Kenny being rewarded for their dedication. As I used to do a lot of cycling at club level they have burst my perception of Sprint cyclists, in my day the great track sprinters were in the Chris Hoy mould very muscular both upper body and thighs like tree trunks but Laura and Jason have both debunked that theory I honestly can't believe how much power Laura exerts for the slip of a girl she is to get the size of gear moving takes an enormous effort not bad once you are rolling but she makes it look so easy. In my mind they fully deserve the honour for the place they Chris Hoy Bradley Wiggins Froome Cavendish Victoria Pendleton have elevated cycling to.
