A) Of course not, how could I? Doesn't stop me from casually enquiring of a customer, if they cycle or have a bike though. I'd estimate that up to half either have/or have had a bike, or have a relative who rides.
B) That would be truly wonderful, if the majority did their shopping on two wheels, but it's pretty much unlikely. From experience other EU states have had, I'd expect a figure of 30% - 40% tops.
C) Far from 'tripe', it's a widely given response, ask around yourself. True there will be other reasons given, e.g. our weather. But believe it or not, fear of cycling in traffic is the number one reason people who don't cycle will give.....Whether or not that fear is justified, is an entirely separate matter - here we're talking about non-cyclists perception of the risk.
