Not excusing those two, but they're not alone in doing that.....We've (our group Path'n'Pedal) long called for a cyclist contra-flow up Botanic Road. Bearing in mind, that till around thirty-odd years ago it was two-way (even for busses!) there is no doubt that the road has enough space for a meter-wide South to North cycle lane.

Incidentally, my work with IAM/RoadSmart isn’t classed as professional, it’s an entirely voluntary vocation. I am passionate about making our roads safe for ALL road users, but unless ALL road users are prepared to adhere to, not only the rules, but also basic safety and common sense issues, road safety will never improve.
Just recently, I was parked on Botanic Road slightly before Checkers. A car was attempting to leave Checkers car park, but his view was obstructed by another parked vehicle. As he emerged from the car park, TWO middle aged cyclists were riding the wrong way along Botanic Road, I quickly sounded my horn to warn both the car driver and the cyclists of an impending collision, but all I got in return from the cyclists was a V sign from the pair of them.
So please explain why I’m a cretin then…..cos you’ve just agreed with my previous posts?
I’ve had lots of chances to submit evidence to the police, but I haven’t due to time constraints. Now the rules of the road are more in favour of vulnerable road users, rules that the majority of drivers will be totally unaware of, there will be many more incidents to report. Education is important, and the only way for me to educate is to report and then let the authorities do that job. But YOU, you have a chance of helping out. You could be the start of something good…..embrace it.
Right, I’m off for a bike ride, don’t think I’ll use any cycle lanes, cos 91000 people in southport don’t want me to…they want me on the main carriage way with them…that’s what they voted for …….

The more dashcams the better. Don’t forget, the first stop line at the lights is your stop line, don’t do red light irregularities….. I won’t hesitate to report you.
When I’m cycling at 20 in a 20, don’t overtake me.
Don’t follow me through the No Entry signs into queens Rd
Don’t pass me within 1.5mtrs.
Don’t speed.
Don’t cross solid white lines.
Don’t use bus lanes.
Ignorance of the revised HWC is no defence.
I’m watching you. You watch your post box… :-)
