Fyi, the North end of the coast road (Marine Drive), will be closed to motor traffic between The Plough roundabout and Marshside Road, from 24th Jan for 12 weeks........Good timing, as it will be open in time for the Summer season.

FYI, it's been known and advised since the middle of last November and, in fact, will be from January 25th.

Looking forward to it with relish. If this closure is anything like the previous one, it will make for a great spot of blissfully quiet traffic-free cycling on the weekends.

The extra traffic along PNR and through town is fine, just so long as you can piddle about on your bike, not self centred at all

I once heard it said (by Pedoja), that the traffic on Lord St is 'the icing on the cake', so why not make the closure permanent? Diverting all that extra footfall right into the shopping area - could be the saviour of many a local business!

Visitors can drive into town from any direction, whilst at same time congestion from useless through-traffic is eliminated.

Traffic coming in from Ormskirk direction will arrive on Lord St via Eastbank St, as for other traffic most avoid Lord St like the plague, but whether you like it or not it is a main thoroughfare, with multiple junctions and connections to other roads, would doubt as to how much Lord St traffic is just passing through.

It's designated as the A565, which is the official North-South trunk-route for through-traffic. Imo, reclassifying the coast road as the A565 (with HGV diversion via the Prom to avoid low bridge at Pier) would be a good start. There are btw, no side-roads to speak of between the 'Brick and Monument, so little or no issues on that score......And the shopping public would be able to enjoy a marvellous public space, which would be (apart from a few busses) entirely traffic-free.

I don’t understand how if the coast rd is closed from the plough to Marshide rd traffic has to go through town can it not go up or down Marshide rd or Hesketh rd to or from the coast rd ?. Traffic from Ormskirk won’t be affected really will it ?.

Yet again you demonstrate that you are quite incapable of thinking logically as your crass suggestion is completely pointless.

Apart from the fact that Lord Street is a key section of the A565, closing off a tiny section of it would cause complete chaos.

As for through traffic, the Coastal Road and Marine Drive perform a substantial element of keeping it out of the town centre.

Do engage your brain before actually typing. You'd do yourself a big favour.
