I don’t understand how if the coast rd is closed from the plough to Marshide rd traffic has to go through town can it not go up or down Marshide rd or Hesketh rd to or from the coast rd ?. Traffic from Ormskirk won’t be affected really will it ?.

True.....However, there will inevitably be longer than average queues at Churchtown lights. For that reason, expect a substantial increase in traffic on Fylde Rd (20mph) much of which will no doubt ignore the lower speed-limit along there.

As for through traffic, the Coastal Road and Marine Drive perform a substantial element of keeping it out of the town centre.

Very few journeys are made along the coast road by cars wanting to get across town, e.g. from Roe Lane to Hillside. What you have in such a case, is the local motorist using Lord St as no less than a glorified rat-run. This tight-a***d lot has absolutely no intention to stop and shop, so should be thrown under the bus and sent round via the Prom.

You are allowing your personal obsessions to take over, sure there will be some journeys where Lord St is used, but most avoid Lord St like a plague, the entire thinking behind your alleged "rat runs" is as a shortcut, quicker journey etc, using Lord St fills none of that criteria.

The coastal Rd is used as a bypass by a lot of vehicles, the only drawback is the pier height for HGVs, the temporary closure will no doubt illustrate just how much it is used and highlight the sheer stupidity of the now on hold proposals, which would have reduced traffic flow, created bottlenecks.

Again, not a logical argument. When the section of Marine Drive was closed between Marshside Road and Crossens roundabout at the end of last year, it was still kept open using 30mph stretches alongside the road works.

We KNOW this road work is going to happen, we KNOW that this will force traffic on to roads/streets they wouldn't normally use, we KNOW this will increase traffic in residential areas and you think that is something to rejoice ????????????

Funny you should mention that figure, we did have a word in a few 'shell-likes' about a permanently lower limit on Marine Drive.....Keeping it at 50mph at its junction with Marshside Road for example, is a recipe for nasty accidents. Apart from which, tyre noise will be much reduced at a lower speed, making life on the cycle-path more bearable.

It was the stretch between Marshside Rd and Fairways that was closed last year, the 30mph on the section to the Plough was imposed last Autumn at the request of the Police due to the high number of accidents being caused by the state of the road.

Nobody really cares, so there are roadworks and a diversion there’s nothing new there. Just so long as we get rid of these cycle plans and lanes ASAP and the majority will be happy. The coast road will get fixed up lovely I imagine, if cars have to wait a bit longer stinking up the place then cyclists can just suck it in…… and they will have to breath in the fumes aswell .

Yes, I know it was brought in on a temporary basis, which is why we thought it the perfect opportunity to get something done to lower the speed permanently, particularly in vicinity of Marshside Rd..
