This is the good news we all need.
The total number of technology companies that have reached “unicorn” status in Europe — a valuation of $1 billion or more — has grown from 223 last year to 321, according to a new report from Atomico, the venture capital firm.
That there is a superfluity of speculative capital searching for return on investment owing to excesses of same two decades ago, is well documented. But does it really signify soundness and stability of our economy? Or, are we headed for more economic and social dislocation?

Shooting the messenger is a somewhat unreliable way of addressing the report.

If you think it's wrong then fine say so and address it I am neither the keeper or custodian of it.

At some point, the celebration of the UK's achievements will overwhelm the waves of negativity from those who don't want to accept the people of this countries ability to run good attractive companies that benefit us all.

PwC’s 25th Annual Global CEO Survey — Brexit News? No; it's not about Brexit.

…cites a reference to the PwC.co.uk web pages.
It includes comments by Kevin Ellis, Chairman & Senior Partner at PwC UK.
The points mentioned are abstracted with reference to UK CEOs responses; but there's no flesh on those bare bones.
I'm guessing you, localName: red fist icon.png

Size: 597 Bytes, did not bother to look into it further.

…The survey was in the field during the COP26 conference in Scotland, which convened world leaders to try to prevent the worst effects of climate change. PwC experts who attended were both impressed by executives’ commitment to rapid progress and aware that the captains of industry in Glasgow were a self-selected group that came prepared to take action. The question of how to bring others along looms large. Then, just two weeks after our survey closed, news of the Omicron variant reverberated around the world, raising fresh questions about the course of the pandemic and about society’s ability to continue the slow climb to normalcy.

Our survey findings reflect these and other tensions. For example, just 22% of survey respondents have made net-zero commitments (though the largest companies in our sample are further along). CEOs are most worried about the potential for a cyberattack or macroeconomic shock to undermine the achievement of their company’s financial goals— the same goals that most executive compensation packages are still tied to. And they are less concerned about challenges, like climate change and social inequality, that appear to pose smaller immediate threats to revenue.
In these unsettled days, Mr. Kevin Ellis was spinning an hopeful scenario for his readers.

In fact there is a PwC UK Economic Outlook available:

"…We then anticipate GDP growth to slow down in 2023 as the economy returns to its pre-pandemic trend. By the end of 2022, the UK economy is likely to be roughly 1% to 2% above the pre-COVID levels. From 2023 onwards, the pace of growth is projected to slow down further as base effects fall out of the annual figures. Under our two scenarios, we expect growth could range between 1.3% and 1.8% in 2023."

If in the near future the UK's long-term trend economic performance is demonstrably better than it would have been, had we remained within the EU, then I shall be surprised; but very pleased and relieved. At the moment die-hard LEAVE boosters such as yourself, are clutching at straws.

Well, it would do! It is an American company. It is more likely that the UK is it's ONLY market!

"“The Americans don’t need a trade deal with us, they hold all the cards. Our negotiating position is very weak and one of the things the Americans will want is full access for their companies (to the NHS). That doesn’t mean privatization in terms of buying up all the assets of the NHS, but things like the drug pricing regime will be open to being weakened,” he said.“The way the drug pricing regime works in Britain is that it keeps drug prices low which the Americans think is a theft of their intellectual property and that’s where the arguments will be.” CNBC

    Down the Pan?

Of course we all (well, some of us) believed the spin about seeing boom times post-Brexit, what with the whole World opening up for us and all......But all I've seen so far, is the £pound devalued and a 12-week limit imposed on us, when we take the ferry - duh!

Adding insult to injury, now it appears the UK cost of living is skyrocketing and rising faster than it has done for at least thirty years....what's next - eek!

The UK economy is doing better than most, if not all, of the EU and the cost of living rise is due mainly to circumstances outside of our control (and also in the case of the EU), such as the higher cost of gas and other energy sources. Employment is also higher in the UK than for many years.

You should do some research before making such misplaced comments.

Be that as it may (or may not) be.....Seems to me, things were better before Brexit. We had a strong pound, could go where we liked, for as long as we liked - and got a good rate of exchange too.

Even the promise of keeping foreigners out has fallen flat. EU'ers who filled vital roles have upped and left. Whereas the stream of cross-Channel illegals from goodness knows where, has become a veritable river - duh!

Your rose tinted views are out of date.

You also completely brushed aside the sheer scale of the pandemic's impact over the past two years as though it has never occurred.

As for migrants, yet again you reveal the rather nasty side of your nature....

I suggest you look back over the recent thread on immigrants and see again what other forum members thought about you (and that included Seived) and your bigoted comments; you might perhaps reflect on and, hopefully, be very ashamed of your nasty views.

The naivety displayed here by some is remarkable.

"75% of CEOs plan to hire people". I'll bet they do.
    Care providers
    Health care providers
    NHS
    Retailing
    Transport
    Haulage
    and on and on
All of them stricken by the departure of 800,000 workers after Brexit.
Try the meat industry. Nearly all our abattoirs had vets in place who came from the EU. They went home. That's how we end up culling hundreds of thousands of farm animals and importing record levels of foreign meat.
Try haulage. Deliveries which used to take days now taking weeks. Operators having to pay much higher wages which simply sucks people from other sectors like public transport driving..and is one of the factors pushing inflation as haulage costs rise.

    That's not optimism, it's desperation.

You have repeatedly exhibited your ignorance on these pages and you continue to do so sadly.

Is there a subject you have genuine knowledge of, gardening perhaps.

You might if you had a scintilla of viable business experience look at the CEO's and seen the sectors they are involved in before posting yet more cringeworthy drivel.

Your clear and demonstrable history of denigrating any UK success undermines your posts.

Thankfully the business world is getting on with producing the prosperity that we all need.

A report that said the CEO's didn't think the UK was a good place to do business in and you would have a point.
