    Christ on a bike

    PNP .
Ridicule and hate are not the same thing, car users ridicule cyclists with poor mentalities that call roads car sewers when things don’t go their way and cyclists hate common sense prevailing against road designs that cause danger, restrict parking and block main roads off altogether. Stop crying now about your failed, expensive, unwanted stupid idea of killing off roads and causing congestion and other problems around the town with this cycle lane nonesense that is soon to be taken away altogether. And get over it now, if you feel unsafe on the road ride on the pavement, the kids should be riding on the pavement anyway, only a fool would let their kids ride in (what you call live) dangerous traffic. Your argument started leaning on the green bandwagon at one time and now it’s leaning on families and the safety of children, next it will be Jesus himself says he wants cycle lanes and it’s un Christian to remove them.

^Not everyone who makes their journeys by car, does so because they want to. Believe it or not, there are people out there who would like to ride rather than drive - but they won't because of the risks involved. These are the ones who would do it because they enjoy cycling, or want to reduce their CO2, or to save money, or simply for health reasons e.g. to get fit/lose weight.

Case in point: I had the pleasure of working for a middle-aged Dutchman living in Ainsdale some years ago. Having lived/worked in NL myself, we had plenty to chat about. When I asked him about cycling, whilst he had happily used a bike regularly in NL, he said he would never do so here.....Needless to say, this was entirely down to the prospect of having to cycle in traffic.

Btw, the term 'car sewer' has been in use amongst the global cycling community for years.

We have already established a minority want to occasionally on a good day cycle instead of driving, and the risks from this new legislation will put them off more when the news of the casualties due to over-sure righteous cyclists thinking everyone knows or cares about these new rules. Once again leaning again on saving the world and environment with pedal power still won’t wash but the enjoyment and health benefits of regular exercise would be a good angle if more than the minute percentage of folk that does this did it continually.
Two of you talking about how a Dutchman wouldn’t cycle here due to the roads is a bit double Dutch as you may well know the massive distances and lanes of the big roads in Amsterdam and although you have to dodge the cyclists in cycle lanes and trams and cars all going both ways it takes some nerve walking across Rokin to the dam square from Damstraat, the volume of traffic there makes lord st look like a little back alley.
I think the term car sewer finished it for you.

The "Southport Times", as always, comes up with the true facts...

However, on a more serious note, seems much of the country holds very similar views on the Highway Code's latest amendments:

With these new rules coming into effect this week, I tried to order a box of the new Highway Code books to hand out to new Associates when starting their Advanced Driving Courses, but guess what, they aren’t being printed until March.

The Country, at least those who live in it and who have an interest in these things, had ample opportunity to contribute their two-pennorth-worth to the new H.C. Rules like cars not cutting left, across the path of a bike that is going straight ahead are a no-brainer and long overdue.

It happened to me only a couple of weeks ago, as I set off going straight ahead at the lights, emerging from Marshside Rd. The dumba$$ in the car immediately to my right, went left into PNR, nicely cutting me up. Lucky I had half expected him to do it, so was able to brake to a halt.

Thing is, will people like that even become aware of the new rules. Or will they have to knock someone off, before it dawns on them that what they're doing is wrong?

Lol.....It being daytime, the odds are that he wasn't. Just didn't bother to use his left-hand wing mirror. Or if he did see me (unlikely), believed he had right of way and/or that his trip was more important than mine!

Did you not notice the car indicating left when you undercut it and sat in its path, new rules (that have not come in yet ) or not you are right if you undercut a car turning left you are likely to get knocked off. Why were you not in the designated red box in front of the traffic why did you have to be on the left side of a car indicating left ?, are those red boxes just ornamental like cycle lanes .

Indicate? Do me a favour! That sort don't bother with such niceties. For all anyone could tell, he intended going straight across. Which is why I felt safe in riding up the left of the static cars waiting for a green. The cycle-lane there, runs along the pavement and rejoins the road almost at the front, which is where I ended up waiting for the green.

Well probably best to stick with the designated boxes if you are not sure .
When the new rules come in and you see a stationary at the lights or a moving car indicating left will you still undertake it ?.

I don't often undertake cars, mainly because they are moving faster than me, so I can't anyway. I still wont believe they intend going straight ahead either, just because they aren't indicating. Because as we all well know, some people can't be ar$ed to indicate.

What that junction needs, is mini-sets of bike traffic-lights installing. These give bikes about a 5 second advantage over the cars, allowing riders to clear the junction before the cars move off. They are already in use in Ormskirk at the town end of St Helens Rd...Btw, these new-style lights are included in the new HC.

    1. You don’t know that. However, if he needed to use his near side mirror to see you, that would indicate that you was BEHIND him.
    2. If was was the case, yes, he did have the right of way.

As you constantly go to great lengths to tell us how at traffic lights, you always take up a position AT THE FRONT OF THE TRAFFIC in order to be seen, I would suggest that this little story is yet another one of your bare faced lies, dreamt up to yet again put the motorist in a bad light.

It is said you have to have a good memory to be a good lair. Perhaps in future you should think about things you have previously posted before writing more and more blatant lies.
